Samsung Dryer broadcasting as Access Point on 2.4.Ghz

I have noticed my Samsung dryer is broadcasting itself as an AP on 2.4Ghz at -37dbm. This is causing significant interference in my home wifi network. Is there any reason for this , how can this be disabled ? Why does it need to be at such a high level ?

Hi @avrono and warm welcome 👋

Unfortunately Samsung’s washers and dryers require 2.4Ghz connection it can't be lower or higher than that.

Well there should be an option to disable , a machine broadcasting at that power is basically just generating interference for no good reason.  Was there a recent software upgrade to your Dryer products, because it seems as if the problem has worsened of late.

Web suggests

"Samsung washers and dryers primarily use the 2.4 GHz WiFi band because it offers better signal penetration and range compared to the 5 GHz band, which is crucial for smart home appliances that might be located further away from the router, ensuring reliable connectivity for remote monitoring and control through the SmartThings app; most importantly, most older appliances are designed to only work on the 2.4 GHz band."

As you can see the power level it is broadcasting on is far too high

turn off at the plug wall socket outlet to stop it broadcasting when not in use? - or go into home wifi router and block/disable the dryer in the wifi settings?

Yeah of course I can just unplug it or turn off the dryer, but I have a family of 4 and would like my 2.4Ghz band unpolluted and also to dry my washing. It is broadcasting itself as and AP (i.e Router) and this has nothing to do with the home router in any way and so there is nothing to be done w.r.t the home or any other router. I.e here you have a device which is broadcasting itself as a router for no apparent reason and further more I would say it contravenes the specification, but would need to check if 802.11 actually specifies any fair use around this.

Turns out you have to configure your "smart things" to make this annoyance go away, unless you do the device keeps broadcasting as a very noisy  access point.

My washing machine only broadcasts as an access point when you're setting it up, as far as I can tell? Not sure why it (or your dryer) would need to otherwise...............?
