I have a Samsung Q-drive with auto dispense which is failing constantly. It is always the fabric softener side. The symptoms are typical. After 6 months, the fabric softener tank needs filling less and less compared to the detergent tank, until it stops dispensing altogether.
I have so far had three repairs. I am now refusing to accept any further repairs. This is clearly a design failure and not a coincidence. The repair man suggested I dilute the conditioner as it may be blocking the tubes! But I took the offending unit apart and discovered that the seal on the fabric conditioner has degraded and deformed rendering the vacuum useless so it no longer draws the liquid into the drum.
I have attached images of the seal for all to see compared to the detergent seal which is still in perfect condition and I would like to hear back from anyone who feels aggrieved to join me in getting their machine replaced.
I have started legal action through Which? and will pursue as hard as I can having this machine replaced along with the tumble drier as it won't match once it is swapped out. But the more who join me the better our chances of having this rectified will be.
I am sure that given the basic failure and how expensive their machines cost this is an unacceptable situation that is causing immense frustration to you all.
I hope you will join me in putting this right.
Design faults should not be subject to its warranty especially if the fault prevents the machine from working as it should and fails time and time again.
Kind regards to all
Jason
I trust you will join me

Here is my take on it , and its not an official take , its not something I have seen Samsung mention nor read it on any of their pages, this is just an observation that I wonder might help, and may help prolong the seals of the Auto-Dose system maybe. I could be wrong but it cannot help. And yes I know its a lot of faffing about and a lot of people may not have time in their busy lives to do this, but i wonder if it might help stop the seals getting clogged up over time on this type of samsung auto-dose washing machine .
OK, so first of all , I think these 'concentrated' and 'super concentrated' soap detergent liquid and fabric softener are not doing our samsung Auto-dose washing machines any favours these days. They are thick in viscosity where once time back in the day, soap detergent liquid and fabric softener used to be runny viscosity, like water , and there may be instructions on the back of the bottle to say 'dilute before use' but most do not include that advice ... and if they did would people follow that advice anyway?
OK then, so over time the thick liquid must have to 'gunge' up the autodose pump mechanism and seals and holes with sticky messy 'gloop' over time.
So , my Idea lot of thought and time messing about but you know when you get that maintenance message every 40 washes on this machine about doing a drum clean? - well how about after doing the drum clean you do a 'Soap Dispenser Clean' - or do a soap dispenser clean before replacing the detergent and fabric softener after its run out. That is , remove the drawer totally from the machine (it can be done , read the instructions that came with your washing machine) you pull the autodose dispenser drawer out by pressing the blue catch at the top of the drawer as you are pulling the drawer out. Then you can open the lid fully that covers the liquid detergent and fabric softener (great design by Samsung to actually be able to do that to give it all a good clean) - so tip out any remaining soap detergent liquid and fabric softener down the sink and with an old toothbrush and under a running tap clean the whole drawer thoroughly, all the seals and everything (I have heard of people putting the whole soap drawer into the dishwasher on the top rack to clean it thoroughly , but I have never done it - cannot see it would hurt, after time it might rub the word 'Samsung' off the front of the drawer keep putting it in the dishwasher I am not sure?
anyway , so you have the drawer all clean, before putting it back into the place where the auto-dose drawer goes look inside it (shine a torch up to the back) chances are its all gunged up at the back with old detergent and fabric softener gloop - so get one of these plastic sprayer bottles (the ones you get for spraying your plants) and fill that with some boiling water from your kettle (be careful not to scold yourself wear marigold gloves) then spray the boiling hot water right into the compartment where the soap dispenser drawer goes.. right up the back as well and leave for a while for the hot water to dilute and break down all the old soap and fabric softener gung/gloop and use an old toothbrush again if it helps , dont brush it hard, when that is all clean , dry the dispenser drawer with a tea towel and place the drawer back into its place and then re-fill with fresh detergent liquid and fabric softener (again if the liquid feels really thick , try diluting it with some water to make it runny.
Try that and see if that stops the inconvenience of getting in touch with customer support and being on hold for ages or waiting for a washing machine engineer to call out to you and fix the auto dose system. as I say if you got into a routine of cleaning it regularly I really do think it may work and keep it all clean and avoid frustration and callouts and keep the pumps working on the auto-dose system .
some people are saying its a bad design of samsung and not fit for purpose and that they have had it repaired or replaced twice (the autodose system) but when you come to think of it what other way could samsung have designed it to be honest?
If its the case that the liquid these days for the detergent and softener is thick and needs watering down , thats hardly samsung's fault . - If the end user does not do required maintenance from time to time keeping the machine clean then that is not Samsung's fault either to be honest. - if they have used unsuitable rubber washers or the pump gets clogged even after customers cleaning and maintaining the autodose system then that is different , then yes they should make adjustment to the washer/design I suppose.
But its worth a try I think just to get into a routine throughout the year from time to time giving the dispenser drawer and the compartment it slides into a good clean from time to time and watering down thick concentrated detergent and fabric softener and seeing if that helps.
Let me know how you all get on and if it works - good luck.

I’m going to interjected. I have a degree in chemistry so have a bit of authority.
the fabric softener’s viscosity has nothing whatsoever to do with the mechanism of failure. You can dilute it but the issue will remain. The ingredients in fabric softeners swell and deform the rubber seal with in the pump.
As an analogy: pasta soaked in water swells and disintegrates. This is the same issue here with the seal and softener.
over time the seal deforms and disintegrates out of the pump housing which stops the pump from drawing the softener and pumping into the drum.
It is a design fault, Samsung know it and do nothing to fix it. And I feel badly for all those who paid good money for a machine that will fail in 6 months.
Never will I buy a Samsung product again thanks to their absolutely sh1te customer service.
I hope this clears up any confusion as to why the pump fails.

so , if fabric conditioner perishes rubber (as in the rubber seal in the autodose pump) does it perish the rubber parts in the rest of the machine then like the soap drawer to outer drum hose, and rubber door gasket, and rubber sump hose and rubber seal on the drain pump and filter?? - if so, shame on fabric softener companies that bring out a chemical for a washing machine that contributes to perishing rubber!

the machine would not be 'failed' in 6 months and you could still perfectly use the washing machine after 6 months to what could be for another 10 years or so effectively .... just not the autodose feature if thats the only issue that has packed up .
just put in Detergent (even washing powder if you like) like any other non-autodose washing machine - or toss in a pod in the drum which has built in fabric softener and forget the autodose system altogether - its still a good washing machine

I had it for three years and had three repairs to the same issue…after that it became a problem. Paying good money for a machine that takes away the convenience of the fabric softener and no one in their right mind wants to add the softener manually. Consider the issue, how do you add this mid cycle? You can’t.
thats like driving a car but the AC doesn’t work and the only way to fix it is replace the unit. You’re not going to live with that. You expect a fully functioning machine. I got rid of it because it was a torment due to the extensive time trying to get Samsung customer services to help and all I received from them were roadblocks. I must have spent 24 hours in total trying. So that was it. Get rid and never buy their machines. And I don’t think their washing machines are any better than others. Miele are far far superior. My clothes are drier at the end of the wash, smell so much better and far quieter machines. Worth every penny.
whilst I appreciate your sentiment in the real world you cannot expect people to just accept a part functioning machine for 10 years.

because the pump seal is exposed permanently the disintegration happens at a much faster rate.
The other rubbers may just perish over time because they are rinsed off during cycles that reduces the exposure. Or the rubber seals in the auto dispense are o different type, they appear to be tangibly much softer

I have owned my Auto dispense machine for a little over 12 months and now im getting the error message "refill conditioner" but the reservoir is full of product and it appears its just not dispensing. If i take out the tray and press the value at the back it is releasing the liquids but i dont think it is dispensing when in wash (clothes do not smell as fresh as i would expect them too)
Any advise how to fix this issue?

Same problem with our machine we had it serviced 2 times now and it cost almost 8% of the whole cost of the washing machine to replace the part. Now its malfunctioning again. We changed our fabric softener so I don't think thats the problem anymore. This is a big design flaw for samsung. Really disappointing and they dont have the function to just straight up ignore the automatic dispense and just use the traditional manual refill per load.
