this is exactly what happened to me, at asurion, under warranty.
they handed it back without telling me it would no longer open flat.
when I pointed this out to them, accusing them of damaging the phone, they became very anxious and defensive, claiming that the phone went through their normal testing and if the hinge is different now it's a problem with the hinge and not them.
luckily Samsung replaced the device, but the same failure happened a year later.
