I've not noticed any film on camera lens before I put my lens protectors on

Yes, it's there. Hard to see, but it's there.

I remember I peeled off all the case side bits once, or at least I thought I did. A year later, I found some more! 🤣

Maybe that is what's causing your lens / dust problem?

It is pretty hard to see but a fingernail should pick it out. 

Years ago we did see some posts stating the phone's edges were showing very early signs of wear and tear @WBENSTOCK , which turned out to be the in-transit film not being removed.

Pmsl it had bugged me for ages I even brought lens protectors and it turns out there's protective film over the lens lol 😂 ....
