Good afternoon all
So, in Part 4 I said the next update would be about mobile connectivity. Ok so I lied.
Today we are talking cameras 🫠👌🫠 and in particular what I would describe as Click n Shoot (i.e. I have not used multiple different photography settings here, just the standard click and shoot options).
Before I start though, as is usual for all of us in the Product Testing Programme, a massive Thank You to
@Lucy C and the Community Team for the opportunity. Thank you so much.
Today I took the Fold 6 to the Orchardleigh Estate in Somerset. Having taken a small number of pictures previously on the Fold 6, I was expecting to be disappointed. I had feared that the Fold 6 would underwhelm as has the S24 Ultra in some respects.
Below are a selection of photos taken and I'm pleased to say that image quality, without zoom, was better than I expected and that is without a show stopping 200mp camera which the S24 Ultra has but doesn't really benefit from.
The Fold 6 has two core options, 12mp and 50mp. 12mp has a zoom up to 30x, 50mp up to 5x.
Picture quality without using zoom is on a par with the S24 Ultra using both 12mp and 50mp, if not slightly better. Colours are vibrant and perhaps most importantly for many in this Forum, AI does not destroy the quality of the image (same cannot be said for the S24 Ultra).
With the zoom, things take a different turn. 50mp at 5x zoom is pretty reasonable, again on a par with if not slightly better than the S24 Ultra. However the 12mp, whilst offering a 30x zoom, loses quality very quickly and the images blurred. This is similar to the feedback we see in this forum about the S24 Ultra and clearly shows Samsung have a lot of work to do here.
Settings in the Fold 6 are relatively similar to the S24 Ultra, only to be expected, although in some cases particularly when selecting the 12mp or 50mp or the image size are easier to navigate on the Fold 6.
So it feels that for the hardware, Samsung are broadly on the right lines except for zoom which needs a lot of work (and which I don't think software alone will resolve). I genuinely think on most of Samsung's flagship devices that the choice of hardware is the issue and that software can help but not fully resolve. The key thing for the Fold 6 though is that AI enhances the image and doesn't destroy it like it does on S24 Ultra.
So, enjoy the images......
