The Journey Continues.......
Setting up the Fold.
So, this really couldn't be any simpler.
Turned on the device, arrived 50% charged so popped the included charging cable onto my Samsung 45w charging brick.
Simply - there is a process to follow.
Selected language UK English
Followed on screen instructions.
SmartSwitch offered but chose to skip.
Why not SmartSwitch? Well some folk on here take the view a clean install is better, getting the right versions of apps for the device instead of apps copied over. First time I haven't opted to SmartSwitch for many years, and this process confirms I won't use it in future.
One of the newer things in Samsung's software is that when setting up a new device, you can choose to copy over many of your settings from an existing device. Clicked on the QR code, accepted the "do you want to copy" question and hey presto, almost all of my settings including Google, Samsung, WiFi and others copied across. SEAMLESS.
Once all the screens actioned (some things I accepted, others I skipped - personal choice)...... Time to check for updates.
September Security Patch available for OneUI6.1.1 so downloaded that.
Half a GB of data later and it didn't take long to install. Slightly quicker than my S24 Ultra I would say.
Device restarted.
Google Play was my next step. 39 apps wanted an update. Selected update all.
IT WAS QUICK.
Google Play now downloads and installs up to 3 apps at the same time.
Then to Samsung Store. Another 45 apps, some of which were rather...... LARGE.
Again though, Samsung Store downloads and updates several apps at the same time so very quick.
A quick look at data and set up took over 6.5gn of data to complete BUT BOY IT WAS QUICK AND SO VERY SIMPLE TO DO.
Samsung Software gets slated so much in forums, particularly for updates, but for seeing up a new device boy have they got things working well.
SEAMLESS is the best way to describe it.
Oh and for those following my journey, my little case arrived.
Build Quality
Really really good. The Fold 6 feels premium. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to drop it and I would 1 million % advise a case, but the Fold 6 really does feel pretty sturdy and premium.
The Fold mechanism feels stiff (it is new) but also reassuring.
Size wise? This is where I have conflicting views.
When Folded, the Fold 6 fits really nicely in the hand. Quite honestly? Better than the S24 Ultra does. But the outer screen is thin,a good 8mm thinner and shorter than the S24 Ultra screen. Fine for seeing who is calling you, sending SMS and maybe some web pages. But for streaming? It would be a no from me. But then, if they made it wider it would be a much heavier device (it is only 6g heavier than the S24 Ultra currently).
When it is open, it is a beauty........
And at this point I'll keep you waiting for the next installment. Next up will be the inner screen, streaming and other large screen functions.
Finally, of course, we continue to be incredibly grateful to the Community Team and
@Lucy C for this wonderful opportunity. Thank you
