Samsung apply a Limited 2 Year Manufacturers Warranty on their phone's.
Not 1 year.
I appreciate Samsung are advising a repair cost over the phone but they really need to have hands on to assess the phone to determine whether this is covered under the 2 year Manufacturers Warranty or not.
If they deem it's accidental damage then there would be a cost.
Look to any available insurance such as Home Contents Insurance and some Bank Accounts provide cover as a perk of the Account.
