Did Patch 6.1.1 screw up the software for my ZFold4?

Updated my phone on October 23, then a day after, the inner screen decides to completely shut down. The outer screen works just fine, but returning to it after unfolding the device causes it to also be unresponsive for a few minutes. Once display has returned, the phone does not play any audio and would require a restart for it to play sounds again.

What's a bit concerning is once the phone boots up again, where both screens show the Samsung logo, unfolding the device shuts down the inner display. Inner display dies when the phone is beyond at a 90-degree angle or even less. Other instances where I was lucky for the inner display to be responsive, opening any application causes the entire system to crash. I've also gotten the message that the System UI is not responding or something along those lines.

I've tried clearing the partition cache, clearing the cache for System UI at the apps part in the settings, booted in safe mode but still nothing. The only thing I haven't tried is factory resetting it but judging from the other similar posts from this issue, it may not change anything, but I will consider doing it.

Should I just wait for anything software update, praying this would be fixed? Phone has never been dropped as this was treated like a newborn baby from the start. I know for a fact that the inner display is capable of working, it just doesn't want to? What's going on here? Should I expect a fix on the next update or just switch to a phone that makes more sense ergonomically and financially?

Hello there! Original poster here!

I got my device fixed already and no, this update did not mess my phone up. This was a hardware issue! Samsung Service Center have told me this was an LCD issue, but I'm stubborn so I refused to believe that, because

1. All my pixels were working fine;

2. I cannot afford the repair quotation they provided.

I went to some other technician not affiliated by Samsung and had them replace the flex ribbons and is working like a charm. Gotta be more careful in opening and closing this time 🤔

Hi @Matt529 and may I extend a Warm Welcome to the Samsung Community Forum 👋

It does appear some iwners have experienced some negative impact to their phone's as you've found out via a forum search.

I'd therefore suggest that you too send feedback via your Samsung Members App too.

If i can be of any further help please don't hesitate to ask  😎

I also got the 6.1.1 patch and I am dealing with the black screen  issue. I noticed that hardware reset did not resolve the issue.

Its a right bugger its ruined my whole day yesterday and I've got a sizeable bill to send in samsungs direction as my phone is my car key and it just stopped because I closed the screen... its not ideal but not closing the phone like keep it at 180⁰ and it'll work fine? I'm not paying anything for no repair I'm catching a branch today (waiting for it to open lol as forget hours of my life to calling in to someone that will propose a solution: spend some money and I know I'd still have the same problem - I was really not impressed as I was mega far from home and i had to get someone to drive the same distance with the key for me. This fold 4 I have is the last thing a relation bought for me before they left this life and some things are more than money and whoever has to throw it at who. I just want my phone to work man 😞

is there a way to downgrade the phone system for it to return from the last version?

I have exactly this issue but have noticed a few more things.

The screen seems to work until any audio tries to play, then the burst of static happens and the screen goes black.

Close the phone and wait about 40 seconds and the front screen starts working again but there is no working audio until phone is restarted.

When folded the front screen works perfectly OK. Unfolded it seems to be ok until I do something that makes a sound

I raised it with samsung support and they suggested using the Samsung members app to send feedback and attach diagnostic logs

Step 1. Launch the Samsung Members app.

Step 2. Tap on Support located at the bottom right of the screen.

Step 3. Scroll down and tap on 'Send feedback'.

Step 4. Tap on the pen icon on the lower right corner, and select 'Error reports'.

Step 5. Select the category related to the issue.

Step 6. Tap on Frequency.

Step 7. Choose between Once, Often or Sometimes.

Step 8. Tap on the text box and explain the issue you are facing with your Galaxy device.

Step 9. Once the Error Report has been sent, you will be able to review within your feedback.

Once the main screen has gone black, it won't work again until a restart, and will cause the front screen to go black for 40 seconds again.
