If, according to what you wrote, you didn't accidently damage it and that the black line appeared after the warranty is over, then I believe it is called wear-and-tear damage.
In other words, you will be charged, because the screen served you well through out the intended life-time of guaranteed functionality. but now , it is time for a new spare screen.
Think about it like your car tyres when you have to replace them, even if apparently they look intact.

Can you clarify in regards to what you've said here " It has had an internal screen protector on aswell as the built in one. "
If you've fitted a screen protector over the already factory fitted screen protector then that maybe the issue.
This is advised against in regards to doing that.
Try removing the screen protector you've fitted.

I have never dropped it have had a cover and screen protector and i have been told that it is damage and is not covered by warranty and i am in Australia
