Side button activates Google assistant instead of Gemini

As above, long pressing the side button has switched from activating Gemini to Google assistant. In settings, it is just set to Google, there's no optionsl differentiating between assistant and Gemini. Gemini still works if started from the app. 

Anyone else got this?

You can change it in settings>google>search, assistant and voice>google assistant>digital assistants from google>Gemini (this will change the default google assistant to run using Gemini instead of google assistant)

Hey Google to voice activate it is also disabled, but it's still responding when I say it (very frustrating as I have Google home speakers in my house so both respond)

I want to delete gemini from my phone. Everytime I want to restart my phone then I have to speak saying restart.

@gbest: To address this issue, please head to Settings > Advanced features > Side button > Long press > Power off menu (tap to select). 

It is also possible to access the Power off menu by swiping from the top of the screen to the bottom, then tapping the Power button in the top right corner of the display.

That's not really Gemini's fault. If you don't know how to restart your phone with any other method, it's simply a case of learning them. For example, if you want to restart your phone, simply pull down the Quick access menu and select the power icon. From here you can choose to power down or restart your device. You can also change the side button settings to traditional power button use, so there's really nothing Gemini stops you from doing the "original" way.

Are you certain it's Google assistant rather than Gemini? How exactly are you basing this off? Could you share a screenshot of the prompt that shows when you long press your side button, thanks.

I rebooted twice & it's gone back to Gemini.

There prompt says "ask Gemini", along with additional buttons for sharing the screen & asking about what's on it.

When it reverted to assistant, there were no prompts, just the spinning coloured logo at the bottom of the screen waiting for a voice command.

Ahh right, seems like you encountered a bug with Google's implementation, perhaps from a recent app update. In any event if it's sorted, that's great to hear.

One thing to note is when switching between Google's base assistant, they make you review specific options, so you need to be sure to agree/acknowledge settings for the switch to proceed.
