Kinda disappointed with the S25 Series.

As everyone knows, the S25 series was released earlier today. However, it's left me and many others (youtubers such as flossy carter, mrwhosetheboss etc) somewhat unsatisfied.

Let me start off with the positives:

• The phone overall is very lovely, particularly the screen bezels and improved anti reflective coating.

• The OneUi 7 system is so ***** impressive. Genuinely hats off to Samsung. It's so smooth, particularly when the camera app was seen to be used.

That's pretty much it. The rest was all about Ai and how it's gotten smarter with more access to more personal information.

Now to summarise the bad points.

• The wireless Qi2 standard literally incorporates magnets into the design of the wireless charging system. The fact that Samsung decided to remove this well needed feature is simply diabolical. Sure they kept the 25w wireless charging speeds from the standard. I've waited 5 years (since the iPhone 12) for my Samsung to have an equivalent to magsafe and im beyond disappointed.

• THEY REMOVED THE BLUETOOTH S-PEN. Sure, the only thing i used was the remote camera shutter button and an argument could be made that the watch lineup has the 'camera assistant' app, which lets you visually lineup shots better, but most people don't even have a smartwatch.

• The overall design of the S25 Ultra seems very very generic. When looking from the front, it can be easily mistaken for a random Android device within the past 2 years. The sides are now sharper (not the corners) and when seen from behind, it kinda looks like a galaxy a54. This isn't a major gripe, but they couldve done WAYYY more, as a compliment to the new One ui experience.

• 5000mAh battery cell. In 2025. Yeah. Idk. I understand that most Chinese smartphone companies started to incorporate a minimum of 6000mAh cells, thanks to a refinement in battery technology, allowing for greater density in the same physical footprint. Why then has Samsung not implemented this? I do understand the work on the S25 was started a long time ago but they could've done with a battery upgrade.

I don't know what else to say. I'm pretty certain there's going to be a significant amount of small niggles that I or others don't personally like but that's not going to change anything. The phones are officially released and they probably aren't going to make an S25 Ultra SE anytime soon. I've bought three Ultra devices (current is S22 Ultra) and this is the first year in which I am utterly disappointed by what was released. It sucks but I have to probably wait another year for my perfect smartphone.

Do let me know what else everyone dislikes or likes about the new series down below.

ps. id appreciate it if this post isn't taken down, it's just an opinion.

Not i dont hink small improvements are enough when you are charging this much for a phone.

I'd concur and add two further things:

The colours - oh dear, talk about 50 shades of grey - I get it, you want to appeal to Apple fans but couldn't you at least give us loyal Samsung customers at least ONE bold colour option? The online exclusive colours for the s25 ultra may as well be one of the regular colours!

The official cases - I usually get the official cases as they are among the few who bother to create exact cut outs of the camera module - but this year, you have one lazy hole for all 3 main cameras! This kills the design immediately.

I agree with @GF10 the s25 has left me underwhelmed first time I've stopped watching a launch during to time wasted on all the AI stuff. It's just not a very exciting phone my s23 ultra at launch was genuinely exciting massive improvement over the s22 ultra and gave and still gives me all I need. Samsung have a trend of launching exciting phones then meh phones and this is a meh phone. Be interesting to see how these fair through a year of ownership and if anyone regrets buying or upgrading to it. I hope Samsung takes note literally and improves things from s26 onwards. Also I think they are afraid to move on from 5000mah battery due to the note 7🔥 event and don't want to tempt fate even with new battery tech

I'm doing same probably s28 as s27 will be first with removable battery pack in Europe so rather go one year further so they perfect that feature they have to have by 2027. By then the changes will be worth it hopefully 🙏

I fully agree with your viewpoints and am very disappointed with what the S25 Ultra offers, after reading rumor mills for months and watching the unpacked event on 22nd Jan.

To add to our woes, in Dubai, the trade-in offer is absolutely out of sync with what is being offered in the US for an unlocked device.

Many YouTubers reviewing the S25 Ultra have said that, after trading in an S24 Ultra 512GB, they could pick up an S25 Ultra 512GB for $399 in addition to $150 worth of vouchers to spend on any accessories, in the US.

In Dubai, the same swap above would set you back by  $600 with only 1 Samsung Smart Tag as a freebie.  For reasons explained by you (same battery, no Bluetooth on S Pen, No Q12 charging, generic looks)  and the lackluster trade-in offer, I am letting this model pass.

I moved to Samsung from Apple after being with the latter from the 1st gen iPhone till the iPhone X when I bought my first Samsung device, the S10+. I have been with Samsung ever since, using 2 of their devices all the time.

If Samsung continues going down this path, I may look at other Android options or even reconsider reverting to Apple, much against my liking.

I'm afraid not. As I wrote, my s22ultra made better pictures. And that was without AI. In my experience the AI only makes pictures better in some cases. I had to switch the auto function to minimum, because the AI messes up my pictures. With making them too light, or pasty. And the new 50mp is for a camera I barely use. No better battery on the S25ultra, no increased ram. And those new AI features will come to the s24ultra too.

But you know those AI features will be available on at least the s24, but also a few others a couple of months after the s25 is released? It's not an incentive to buy it.
