I was running the diagnostic tests for my new phone and the Mics, both bottom and top, didn't work ... or so I thought.
I recorded myself speaking using the built-in recording app and could see that I was recording but couldn't hear myself on playback. Odd.
I know the microphone works because I've used the phone in conversation and using the built-in, 'Hey Google'. The mic works fine.
I even used the Skype 'test' call and the mic worked just fine.
I'm not taking the phone to a service center as the microphones clearly work, this is a software / setting issue.
Am I alone with this issue?

Problem solved ... I'm an idi0t.
In the Setting, Media output, my Logitech BT Adaptor was chosen instead of Phone speaker.
I realized something was very wrong when even YouTube or Spotify wouldn't play though the phone but would work with my earbuds.
So, my setting in Media output was the source of these unnecessary posts.
Sorry ... lesson learned. As you were.

More information - in the Voice Recorder settings, Audio playback in enabled but grayed out - it can't be toggled.
So, there's a software issue somewhere.
The latest version of Voice Recorder is installed, Version 21.5.70.81

As a process of elimination can you try Safe Mode @davehorne 🤔
Daily Driver > Samsung Galaxy s²⁵ Ultra 512Gb ~ Titanium Black.
The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.
I'm here to help. " This is the way. "

I just tried Safe Mode, located the Voice Recorder app, but it was grayed out in Safe Mode.
I have also gone into Settings / Apps / Voice Recorder ... forced stop (or whatever it's called) and Storage, remove cache. That also had no effect.
So, the mics work, it's just that the Speaker playback in Voice Recorder while enabled is also grayed out and cannot be toggled.

@davehorne As long as it is sorted, sometimes the obvious can be overlooked
I do not work for Samsung or make Samsung Products but provide independent advice and valuable contributions.
