I thought I would jump in to this discussion about the S24 Ultra screen colours, I agree with the fact that vivid vs natural settings don't seem to show much difference, easier to see the difference if your phone is not in dark mode. I pulled up the same image on my S24 Ultra on the left and on my iPhone 15 Pro Max on the right.

I put both screens at 50% brightness and I ensured that true tone was switched off on the iphone and any adaptive colour tone or eye comfort modes and any adaptive brightness settings to make it fair.

The first thing I notice is how much whiter the whites are on the S24 ultra, the iphone has a yellowish tinge to the whites. Secondly the grey is much more accurate on the S24 ultra (I checked this same image on my professional colour graded editing monitor). The colours are more crisp on the S24 Ultra and sharper but certainly in no way are they muted compared to the iphone 15 Pro Max. As a professional photographer and videographer I would definitely take the S24 Ultra screen over the iphone especially when it comes to colour accuracy.

What do you think? Let me know in the comments below, before anyone asks I purchased both phones myself, no biases or review units here.

It may well just be a batch of them that are faulty.  I've seen people make mention of a particular  batch number.  It might well be that some phones are fine, but others aren't.  It would certainly explain why some people think it's a storm in a teacup and others think it's the worst screen they've ever experienced on a flagship phone.  Don't forget that, it's a flagship phone, it should have the capability of keeping everyone happy whether they like natural or vivid colours.

Do you know what the batch number is by chance?

Sorry, not batch number, but firmware number. I believe the affected phones may have firmware that ends with "AWM9". My phone ends with that number.

Exactly. Personally, I think only some phones are affected. Ultimately, it shouldn't matter, it's a flagship phone, it should be versatile enough to keep everyone happy. Natural colours if you like them, vivid if you prefer that.

I think the problem is that some people have a grainy issue, some have a banding issue and some have the vivid mode issue. I don't believe these are all linked and the confusion comes with mixing them up generally in consumers reports. From what I understand the grainy and banding issue is a hardware issue but the vivid mode thing is a software update needed problem. Very difficult for consumers as many are looking for issues now, I certainly don't have any grainy or banding problem and the vivid mode I have already discussed.

I think everyone has that firmware. The grainy thing is definitely not an issue on mine.

I wasn't sure whether I had a grainy problem or not until I looked at the buttons and bars on the quick settings panel. The brightness bar is clearly grainy on mine, which makes me think it is a software issue because the other buttons are unaffected.  It's all very odd.

Well hopefully Samsung will issue a firmware update soon for everyone to address these issues people are experiencing

I'm returning my device due to the grainy screen issue. It's most visible for me on grey or white backgrounds at any brightness and makes the display look 'dirty' somehow. I can live with the dull and washed-out colours but the screen grain is a deal breaker for me. I think it must be a hardware issue on certain batches which is why not everyone sees it.
