So I read a lot of posts about the broken vivid mode and washed out colors and I thought I can live with it. But if it affects the camera pictures , then am not happy.

A very simple test opened my eyes.

Test 1: Just take any other phone (let's try any Samsung Sseries or iPhone or anything) and search same Google images on both the phones and compare, s24 ultra images are really dull . Sample pic attached for skin color tones

image

Same Google image ( top iphone/bottom s24 ultra) and the difference can't be ignored.

Test 2.
Take a picture / selfie with s24 ultra and send or share it to another phone and see how the pic quality improves instantly. Pics taken in s24 ultra are definitely good quality but are displayed very dull or whitish in the phone , whats the point then..

There's a few people on here who are defending Samsung's decision and trying to make out it's not a big deal but I disagree. I've made a post about this also and I also emailed Samsung back regarding this.

They told me that this is how it is intended to be and they're going for more 'natural' colours.. That's fine but why you making the 'vivid' option also natural. Actually there is no difference between natural and vivid.

Samsung needs to fix this ASAP. I'm also getting the same washed out dull colours and it's not good. It looks really cheap.

I don't see the point of comparing phones.
If I like the look at what I have then I'm happy. Comparing seems pointless as all phone screens vary in colours. Even the iPhones use more than one manufacturer to make screens, and those vary in colours as well

Personally I find the S24 Ultra screen in natural setting to be more realistic with colours.
As a hobby photographer. I find more neutral colours much better for photography and my results are perfectly OK

To get a proper idea of what screen is better than another. You need to compare with a colour calibrated screen. It's just Personal preference otherwise.

If something bugs me about a phone I will exercise my option to return it. Something I've done a number of times over the years

Thanku for your opinion. As a photographer that you are, one honest question ..did you feel s24 ultra selfies are trying to make skin color so whitish ( more than ones natural skin colour or tone is) but same photo taken in s24 ultra when viewed in another phone looks better to eyes.

In all honesty I hate doing selfie.
But I do use it for video stuff mostly
I've never really found any selfie camera I can honestly say I like.
From iPhone to pixels and Huawei.
Only ones I could say were quite decent were the old HTC phones.
Used to quite like my U11+ that I still have. Not perfect but seemed to be more realistic

I will say the camera, I have come across a few glitches. Something I understand that there's an update coming to refine the camera app. Biggest one for me is focusing, which could affect colour reproduction etc
I have provided feedback in the support section with this.
I tend to photo in RAW or just Pro mode setting. So generally I setup to how I like it
Not taken photos of anyone's face as yet with the phone so can't really comment on skin smoothing etc

Personally I see it like this, being a photographer and videographer I use professional cameras. I have many smartphones including pixel 8 pro, iPhone 15 pro max and several samsung devices including the S24 Ultra. I should also say that I am a person of colour and I found most phone cameras make myself and family members look totally off in skin tone including the pixel which was claimed had been tuned to give accurate results. Far from it, in fact they give terrible results, either too dark, way too light and shadows and highlights look terrible and over sharpened. The S24 ultra gives me the best colour reproduction of any other smartphones with the Sony phones being close but in manual mode. If the phone screen is over saturated and hyper colour rich artificially then when you do take a photo no matter how good the cameras are on your phone screen they will look off and completely over saturated. So you need a screen that shows the true colours as close to reality as possible otherwise you might believe the photo is rubbish but it might just be the screen that makes it look rubbish. I have taken photos and videos from my iPhone 15 pro max to edit in Adobe Premiere Pro and they were totally different from what I saw on my iPhone screen, they were blown out massively and almost unusable but with a lot of editing and colour grading I managed to save them to use in my project. So I understand that some consumers want a screen that is super saturated but then other things will suffer. I agree that vivid is very close to the natural profile and I can see that but for me personally I enjoy the more realistic colour of the screen but I understand I'm in a niche scenario perhaps. I would also say that it's much easier on my aging eye's and I suffer with a lot less eye fatigue now.

I used a friend's couple year old A52 5G yesterday and it was clear as day how nice and vibrant the display was compared to my S24U. If it's not fixed in the next update I'm going to return it.

I'm a point and clicked type of photo taker 😆

I'm not unhappy with how the photo's come out.

Remember we all see things differently too.
