Two weeks ago, I encountered a problem that occurred after raindrops came into contact with the power port of my phone. Since then, the phone stopped charging quickly, which led to the need for repair actions. I tried many methods described in the Samsung guide on how to handle a device after contact with liquid, but none of them proved to be effective. The defect turned out to be so serious that I decided to contact Samsung Warranty.

On Friday, August 1st, I scheduled a visit from a Likewize technician, who undertook the repair of the device. After 30 minutes, he replaced the power port, but noted that the phone still does not behave normally. Another visit was therefore scheduled for August 9th.

Three days after the initial repair, the power port again stopped working, making it impossible for the device to charge quickly. The only ways to charge the phone are to use a very slow charger or wireless charging.

I wanted to share this experience because it's hard for me to believe that a phone as well-known and advertised as Samsung can have such a serious defect after coming into contact with a small amount of water. From now on, I am beginning to doubt the waterproof capabilities of this device. I hope that sharing my case will contribute to greater awareness among users about potential problems related to phone contact with water, as the S24 Ultra can be very easily damaged.

I have described the previous thread at this link,

so I have no choice but to replace the device under insurance. The phone is absolutely not suitable for use in survival conditions - just contact with rain and a device over £1000 is worse than cheap smartphones from China.

Hi,

If you didn't allow the phone to fully dry out before attempting to charge, then you could have caused more damage to the internal circuitry.

Hi Robin
The phone dried up because it has a message that does not allow charging, after being plugged in, it immediately detected and blocked charging, there is no dust or a single scratch, it is a very strange case for me. The phone worked for 3 days after repair, today the same problem occurred again. Therefore, I wrote this as a warning for people without insurance, the technician considered it a device defect because he had dealt with it before.

A colleague of mine washed the greasy S7 several times under a full stream of water, wiped it with a cloth and the phone worked normally.

I'm sorry to hear of the issues you are facing @mieloncom

The phone is Ip rated for water resistance and not water proof so water can in some instances ingress into the phone.

It isn't always the issue of the phone getting wet in a rainshower or submerged in water unfortunately.

If the engineer replacing the port has not resolved the issue ,then either the new port is defective or the water has caused damage further inside the phone is my guess 🤔

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.

Actually the phone isn't waterproof only water resistant but then I still wouldn't let my device near any source of water like Samsung claim you can swim down to a certain depth.

The port may have dried out, but rain water still could have penetrated further into the phone, and hence, the moisture warning message disappeared. Its not fully waterproof despite the IP rating. Did you turn the device off immediately after getting wet or leave it on? I wouldn't have been so hasty to plug it in so soon after it got wet, either. A wireless charger would have been handy here. What's probably happened is that moisture has penetrated deep inside and caused a short or rust.

My wife spilled a cup of tea over her Nokia N95 many years ago, battery popped out in seconds, a small philips screwdriver to remove about 6 screws, rinsed the non-electronic components and dried the rest, left it all apart to dry, popped it back together and the screen had liquid in it! Took it all apart again, unclipped the screen, carefully separated the layers of the screen and cleaned them, popped it all back together, good as new! They don't make them like they used to.

I think you're right. I replaced my phone with a new one today, and all the problems are gone.

It seems that something might have actually been damaged in the old phone since changing the port doesn't fixed an issue. Strangely enough, it charged quickly for a moment today, but then slowed down. I think something very serious might have happened.

The phone has been replaced, and all the problems have been resolved. Nonetheless, Samsung should consider this case for further research, as the device was damaged by a tiny amount of water. Therefore, I believe the water resistance feature completely failed in this instance.

I hope the S25 Ultra will be better protected. For now, I need to be cautious and avoid using my phone freely in the rain.

Best regards.
