S24 Ultra display noise

I have this problem too

I think I found the reason for the grainy overlay of the S24 Ultra and perhaps all S24 series.

Simply try "Circle to search" CTS. On my phone, the screen starts glowing with tiny grains in the entire screen. Kind of little stars dance on all over the screen.

The pattern of these grains are very similar to the pattern that I see when I look on dark colors like plain gray color in a dark room, but instead of they glow and dance, they statically cover the entire screen like a glitch and it is always present no matter what you have on the screen. This can also potentially reduce the display quality showing content on it.

I tried to take a screen shot when you activate CTS. I hope it to be clear. But nevertheless,  you try it and see the effect on your phone.

If this is a glitch because of this CTS functionality, then it can be easily solved with an update. I hope Samsung to see this post. I will also try to convey them in the members app.

Good point. But try to send the screenshot to another device. You will see no noise.

Thanks for the input, but I think that is just a background effect. The grainy display on low-brighntess looks different.

I ordered a portable cheap "microscope". If it magnifies the screen enough, I could tell what these noises are. I will be receiving it tomorrow and will test the screen right after.

Sounds great, can't wait for the update. As days pass it seems more and more like a design flaw / serves a purpose such as reducing black smear / extra dim / extra bright

I did some investigations on the noise. Let's first look at this picture, then I will reply to this post to show the detaills. You can clearly see a noisy screen on S24U compared to S22U. The background color doesn't matter in this case.

Picture is taken on a completely dark room on Samsung browser with dark mode on google.com page.

Let's look at around the letter "o" in red color in google logo:

S24U:

S22U:

If you look carefully, you can see small faded dots (lit pixels in dark color) in the dark background around the letter's red pixels on S24U. S22U almost has no extra lit pixels there. Because the screen is on the lower brightness, my microscope could not see the dark pixels completely because the screen is not completely black. So in reality, there are lit pixels on the dark background. But clearly, S24U has some artifacts.

I increased the brightness and only looked at the dark areas on both phones:

It is hard to show in static pictures, but S24U have more artifacts than S22U.

I don't have any clue why the S24U behaves like this on dar colors. It could be different PWM. But the good news is that there is no noise on light areas, so it means that it is not the coating of the glass. For me it is more like a software behavior. But I don't have anu conclusion for this noise based on these observations.

Interesting. This would make it seem like a software thing if it was only around light areas for example. But then again, the grains are static, they don't change color or change with the image on the screen. They're just there.

To the naked eye, they are static, but they are actually refreshing under a microscope. But I also think it is a software thing.

If you're positive that the grains are actually moving and refreshing then that basically confirms that it's fixable, at least I think. Fingers crossed.
