I have my phone for a month now, and the battery life doesn't match what I'm seeing other people have. In general it's good but not great.

Usually I'll have 6 to 7 hours SoT, i saw people recommending to do a factory reset and to not use Smart Switch which I did around 2 weeks ago, but couldn't see much improvement.

I don't have heavy applications or a lot running in the background, usually I'll be using Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and surfing the internet on Wifi not mobile data.

I noticed that the battery will drop 1% each hour while idle which seems not normal to me.

Any ideas or recommendations?

Hey there

SOT is subjective but here's a few thoughts:

For myself, I get 10 + SOT where I am streaming, and perhaps a couple of hours on top where I'm tapping the screen a lot. Add say 30 minutes of calls and that is my battery.

Usually I get a full day on the above. Without the streaming, 2 days.

Your device will use more battery when you are using the screen on apps that require regular input (taps) by the user. 6 to 7 is around middle battery, some may get a little more, others a little less.

You refer to 1% per hour. Your device is connected to WiFi, 4g / 5g and will be regularly syncing email, Facebook, WhatsApp and any other regular apps you use. This all takes up battery power. 1% per hour is low and I would be very happy with that.

Sounds like the way you use your device is resulting in average use of battery. I'm not seeing anything that should cause concern other than should you really stare at such a small screen for so long every day lol 🤪🤪

I believe more in how long your battery last than what others post

My average battery usage in deep sleep is at around 1%/hour which I think has to do with mobile network activity. For comparison, on wi-fi with network turned off (airplane mode), the deep sleep battery usage will drop down to below 0.5 and sometimes as low as 0.1 which is the lowest u're gonna get, obviously . I do have 2 sims though but still the difference between wi-fi only and cellular is huge, relatively speaking.

I should mention here that I don't have AoD enabled, i don't like it anyway, and i set the screen resolution to QHD, i bought this phone over the iPhone 15 pro max, because i like the S24 ultra screen more, and i disable the 5g, and disable everything else, such as the GPS, Bluetooth, Quick share, ... Adding to that, i'm working from home, so, i'm not switching between networks.

In general the battery is good, but comparing it to my 4 years old OP 8, I can't see a difference in the battery performance (Comparing brand new phone to a 4 years old phone)

My usage is roughly 10% of battery per 1 hour of SoT, which is usually 50% streaming, 30% (casual) gaming and 20% browsing, WhatsApp etc. I don't really know how much it drops per inactive hour because it's rare when I don't use it at least once per hour, but 1% seems normal to me.

Hi @AndroidMan

I was feeling the same. My phone was struggling to get a full day. I set it up as new. I used SmartSwitch just to transfer contacts and messages. I have not disable anything to save battery. I use max resolution, plus all other options that made the Ultra an Ultra. I have not disable 5G even though O2 is very patchy on 5G.

I use the phone for voice and video calls, WhatsApp, camera, browser, occasionally YouTube, Samsung health and media playing with VLC.

I only started to get really good battery life after 6 weeks. Of course battery life depends on use. The screen is the most energy consuming element.

One of my habits is to tap "Optimise now" button whenever I open Device care and it is there. I do not know if this helps.

My partner also has a S24 Ultra which has a very similar behaviour.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I hope I'll get a similar performance with time.

It has been almost 2 weeks since I did the factory reset, so will be monitoring for 1 more month.

I noticed in your screenshot that your phane still has 74% of charge after 36 hours, for me if I did not use my phone for that time I would be at 64% maximum taking into consideration the charge is decreasing 1% each hour while idle.

Just curious - what's the SoT for that screenshot?

I have not done any factory reset. I will only contemplate a  factory reset in the most extreme case.

It is illogical to me, to have to do a factory reset every now and then.
