Not Silent when In Silent Mode

Im wondering if anyone else has had an issue with their phone after it has been put in Silent mode?

One more than one occasion when scrolling through my phone in meetings a Facebook video starts to play on full volume despite the phone being on silent and autoplay disabled in facebook. I use facebook as an example but other apps may do similar

I know the autoplay issue is due to Facebook which will automatically autoplay videos if they are featured content or ads regardless of your settings, which is naughty of them

However if the phone is in Silent mode the sound still plays on the ads and featured videos in Facebook which is a nuisance if you expect your phone to be silent

The only way I have found to stop this happening is to press the volume up or down and then press the 3 dots which opens several volume bars and turn them all down from there. The problem is if you forget

Is there a way where I can make the Silent function put all of the volumes in Silent mode instead of leaving some volumes on full?

Silent mode mutes notifications and notification/call sounds. By default it doesn't mute media, as media is something the user triggers themselves.

Settings, notifications, do not disturb, "allowed during do not disturb". You might want to set "alarms and sounds" to disable media

On top of @arianwen27 's advice, you could also disable video autoplay on your default browser. Browsers usually have a setting for this. e.g. Samsung browser, Settings -> Useful features -> Allow autoplay videos (this can be toggled on or off)

I do not use facebook app, but to show all that it uses the browser, it might well implement its own. In that case check if the app have an autoplay videos setting and toggle it off.

Thanks ill check my browsers settings. I do have autoplay disabled in the Facebook app but if it is an advertisement or featured content the app overrides the setting and plays the video anyway with full sound even when on silent

Very naughty of them, indeed. An ad blocker might be help, but it could also break some functionality.
