@TheDenny: This can be done via the Google Calendar, either by signing in to your account using a browser app, or by downloading the Google Calendar app. Simply open Google Calendar > Tap the cog symbol > Settings > Add calendar > Browse calendars of interest > Regional holidays > Browse all > Select the relevant calendar > Click the drop down next to the holiday calendar you choose > Public holidays only.
Now, open the Samsung Calendar app > Tap the 3 lines in the top left > Tap the drop down to the right of your Google account > Make sure that Google Calendar is ticked > Sync now.

Apart from the fact that my birthdays disappeared from the calendars and that Vesak suddenly became a holiday in Vietnam it seems to work. One question though, wouldn't it be better to just choose to use only the Google calendar and uninstall the Samsung calendar completely?
