@Carl7: If you head to Settings > Connections > NFC and contactless payments, is this toggled on? If so, tap on 'Contactless payments' and make sure that Google Pay is selected, and 'Pay with currently open app' is switched on. Furthermore, tap on 'Others' at the top of the screen, and make sure that Google Wallet is visible here, and there is a blue tick to the left of the option.
