Hi. I currently have the Google Pixel 8 128GB for 6 months now and i'm looking to replace it.

This may sound a stupid question but if we consider the chipset, RAM and UFS storage which phone feels more responsive and feels faster in opening apps and especially the camera shutter: Pixel 8 8GB (on UFS 3.1) or Galaxy S24 8GB 256GB version with UFS 4.0?

I supposed a phone with 12GB RAM and UFS 4.0 is still faster than a phone of 12GB  with UFS 3.1...yes or no?

Or an iPhone with 8GB RAM and NvME is still much faster than any Android phone with 12GB + UFS 4.0...Yes or No?

Yes, but there's more to system performance than the speed of your storage. In today's devices, most are very much capable and the memory subsystem has greater influence over the UI experience than your storage speed. Storage speeds really only come into play with things like large data reading/writing and even then we're talking about 2GB+ at least to even notice anything tangible. Games will see the biggest improvements, but really only large games like Genshin Impact. Boot times will likely be marginally faster, and file transfers. But of all those things, these just aren't your every day uses.

So, If i cast Youtube to my TV, take normal everyday photos, writing Notes, use Google Pay, downloading and listening to podcasts, banking apps, downloading .pdf and .doc files, weather & news apps with almost ZERO gaming or on-device video editing...would a phone with 8GB UFS 3.1 be sufficient? Or a 12GB UFS 4.0 bring that wee bite extra help?

Honestly, I'd be surprised if you could notice much difference if said devices were within the last 3 years and high end models like the S25. None of those tasks are really taxing for any modern day smartphone of this class. RAM management in mobiles are also so well optimised, they handle multitasking extremely well.

Let me ask something different.

Thinking about the Galaxy S24 256GB, Pixel 9 128GB or iPhone 16 with the latest iOS 18.3.x... Which OS do you think will be more optimized:

Android skin w/ One UI on top?

Stock Android like the Pixels

iOS

??

All I'd hope, but I take it that's not the answer you're looking for. Generally speaking, any product leader in the IT and notably software department, tend to optimise all their software, at least one would hope so. If any of them weren't, I'd imagine they wouldn't be in the position they hold today.

IOS is and Android are most likely to be most optimised OSes of course, but does that make them better experiences is the question I propose to you? If sales figures are to go by, I think you have your answer.

If UI and overall performance is key then I would go with Samsung but if Camera is your priority then Pixel won't disappoint you. Editing a photo on Pixel is slower compared to Samsung but overall image quality on Pixel is far better. I had S22U and S23U while also having P7pro and P8Pro, so both phones have pros and cons.

Would you ever go for an iPhone than a Pixel 8 or Galaxy S24? I heard performance is far better and cameras aint that bad either.

My work phone is iphone, it has always been since past 10 years. Currently I have 15PM from work but I don't think I will switch my personal phone to iphone, the last personal phone from Apple was 13PM but I used it only for 4 months. One thing I can vouch for is, if you edit videos on your phone quite often, even iphone 11 pro would feel lot snappier than S24U,lol, Samsung could never master video editing as smooth as iphones

I do not do complex video editing. But, I'll soon start making Youtube Shorts so i may need to do more-than-basic video editing. I do not play high graphics games, stream or watch movies on my phone in the past few years. In fact in the past few year i noticed the apps i'm using and the tasks i'm doing have been so far consistent and stagnant due to work & life circumstances.

The reason i'm switching to an iPhone (either the base 16 or 16 Plus) is many things. The specs, the performance, cameras, battery life and little quirks that i can only get on an iPhone than an Android phone which is too many to mention.

I still have a Moto G84 as my back-up phone so i will get the best of both worlds. If I don't like the iPhone i will just sell it and get a new Android. That is why i'm asking and learning a lot of what i want and what i need from an iPhone.
