Charging advice

Can someone please clarify for me how this charging thing works? I've been told multiple things.

Based on advice from the Comcast fellow who sold me the phone, I have been super-fast charging (45W) my S24. But someone told me that it's sort of a lifetime deal: once you start charging with something like that, you *always* have to charge that way...or it's destructive to the phone.

I had already bought a phone charger for my car's cigarette lighter (no charging ports in my 2009 Jeep Liberty) but it is "merely" 18W. A person needs to be able to charge on the road, right? But would it be destructive to my phone to subject it to a charge with 18W rather than the full 45W that it's used to? I don't think they can make anything with a higher power rate than that for a car.

If your answer is "once won't hurt it", please understand I'm not looking for permission, I'm looking for facts. If it is bad for it or there is a risk of it being bad for it, I'm trying to learn why. Science doesn't really go over my head, but I can't seem to find anything factual about it all.

Also, I'm new here, so I hope you'll be patient with me. I believe I'll be receiving email notices of replies, and I'll check as often as I can. Thanks.

I have an old 15 watts charger and a 24 watts charger and have been using them on my s21 ultra for over 3 years now with no issues.

Doing the same with my s24 ultra.

I charge overnight with battery protection routine so it stops at 80% and then resumes to 100% as I am just about to wake up.

If I need a quick charge boost during the day I use the 24 watts charger.

The only benefit of the faster 24 watts charger or maybe your 45 watts is for a quick boost to say 60% in half an hour or so after that the phone normally slow charges to protect the battery.

I hope this gives you a bit of insight the way I charge.

PS: As far as I know fast charging all the time is actually bad as it heats up the phone and the battery so may not be so good in the long run.

Again depends really how long you decide to keep the phone.

Regardless battery degradation will be noticeable after 3 years no matter what you do or don't do.

You can use fast or slow charging whenever
You are not restricted to fast charging only
There's lots of advice out there.
But me personally. I use slow charging and charge overnight. Mind you I don't sleep much.
If say I am going out or something like, I will use fast charging.
I think long term fast charging only is up for debate. But what I do works for me and my phone batteries last
You have various settings in battery and device care section

Hi @StuckOnWords

You need a minimum of 45W for super fast charging, but any charger from a "reputable" manufacturer will do. It will take longer to charge, but it will charge all the same. I made emphasis on the reputable. Doggy chargers are to avoid for multiple reasons.

It is alleged that fast charging can reduce battery life spam, but I have used it and my battery life on the S22 Ultra is as good as two year ago. It is not true that if you start charging in a particular way, you always have to charge it that way.

I have used 100W charger, USB ports on my mains which can do fast charging, and slow charging that takes around 2 hours. The phone works perfectly fine. I have also used an adapter for my car whilst using Android Auto. I even have a battery pack 22.5W that fast charge the phone. As long as you get a decent charger, you are OK.
