BEWARE - S24 series incompatible with older Samsung watches

I was excited to receive my new S24 today, but as I tried to set up my Gear S3 it shows as incompatible. 

So I have a choice - keep the watch that came with the phone that I didn't want or need, or send the phone back!

Galaxy S24 Series is based on Android 14 OS...but the gear watches only support on devices with Android 4.3 to 13..

Possibly, Samsung may solve this issue through software updates in the future.

Well that clears it up. I wish I had known prior to purchasing S24, it would have made me think about proceeding. SAD. I attempted to get the  S3 to connect to no avail. I have an old G6 phone, connected it to S3. Crazy.....now to use the S3 I have to carry another device??? WTF

What a joke. Perfectly good watch, and Samsung want me ro bin it. After spending 1000s on a new s24 Ultra. This is the worst of disposable tech, and utterly shameful

I gave away mine to a friend to use with, GET THIS, his iPhone. Yes, his iPhone fully supports the Gear S3, but Samsung's flagship does not support their own product. I bought a used Galaxy watch3 which I believe is the last Tizen watch. The battery lasts twice as long (4 days) as my Gear S3, which was my main issue for not wanting their newer watches, as Google wear OS is awful. So I can confirm the issue is only with Gear specific watches, not Tizen specific.

This is so disappointing. The Gear sport is yet the only bezel watch I like. I love the bezel and I don't want to change the watch. Samsung *****, don't you realize marketing "tricks" like these put off people from your entire brand? You hope I'll buy a new watch and just forget about it? But I have a newer watch and I'm not using it cause it's worse. Another marketing ***** at the top took a "wise" decision...

Huawei have some functionality that doesn't work if connected to a non Huawei phone. For example music control from your watch only works if connected to Huawei phone.

Which is one of the reasons I'm sticking with my gear s3 and s23 for as long as possible

This looks like a slippery slope, bricking devices to force you to buy new, funny that they still support the s8 phones etc.

Support suggested getting the watch 6 classic, I wonder how well it will hold up on building sites being hit by bricks and whatever else with that pretty curved glass screen....... bet it will be bust in less time than it took to scratch my frontier

As I said to the support, you expect me to get a new smart fridge because you brick mine? Looks like haier will get my business for white goods and I'll be finding a new company for family phones, spent tens of thousands with samsung and they are becoming like apple.

Not true! Both my wife and I got new S24 watches and no problem hooking up to s3 watch.  there is a setting for add new phone.
