Are you aware Samsung deletes part of your call history each time you receive/make a phone call?

Hi, Are you aware that Samsung deletes part of your call history each time you receive/make a phone call? As far as I know, the Galaxy user is never informed about this. This is our data, so we should be informed about it being deleted. Call history can be very critical and useful at times. Also, with most phones having 128 GB of memory, there is no point in deleting this data: even a million phone call histories would use less than 400 KB of storage data. The worst part is that there is no way to express you do not want Samsung to delete your call history. Please let us know if you know how to stop Samsung from deleting your call history data.

If you do not believe me that your call history gets partly deleted every time you receive/make a phone call: use a call log backup tool (like SMS Backup & Restore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore) and backup your call history:

• If you have a new Samsung phone, Samsung is deleting all your call history above 2000 received/made calls. You will never be able to go above as your data gets partly auto-deleted by Samsung.
  
• If you have a less recent Samsung phone (like a Galaxy S8, so not so old), Samsung is even deleting all your call history above 500 received/made calls. You will never be able to go above as your data gets partly auto-deleted by Samsung.

Depending on the number of calls you make/receive, your call history can be very limited: if you receive/make 12 calls a day, even on a brand new Galaxy phone (2000 limit), you only have 6 months of call history. Regards

I was unaware of this until just now. Everything in my call logs is deleted before August 31st of this year. I make and receive a lot of calls. But I also need records of those calls going back for up to 18 months at times, to backtrack a history of events or prove calls were made in my line of business. I'm very upset that this is happening. I've had my s21 for at least 2 years and this is a new thing. If I look at my previous Google backups, I have phone logs going back to 2018 on my April 2023 back up. I guess I'll have to figure out a workaround

Frankly, this is absurd. I can't find or think of a worthy reason to have a maximum of just 2000 calls in my history on a $2,000 phone with a TB of storage. It makes absolute zero sense.

If I can take and keep pictures from 2014, I see no reason my my call history should be limited and why all history shouldn't be backed up and restored on my Galaxy devices after using Switch.

I have only just discovered this myself. I went to verify that i had made a call last June and its gone. I can’t see past last December. This is most annoying. I also found that my backup to the cloud was off but I have turned that on so maybe that will help going forward. Disappointed that I have lost all calls up until now though. Seems ridiculous. Did you find a work around?

I agree with you. I have an S24 Ultra and it doesnt hold call logs for more than a month or so?! What the deuce?! Did you find a work around or a way to extedn the log? Surely its just a simple setting "keep my call logs forever"?

Yes. I was not aware of this case. But one day I noticed this. There should be a way to keep more history. Except third-party app back-up and the statement from telecom company.
