Hi, Are you aware that Samsung deletes part of your call history each time you receive/make a phone call? As far as I know, the Galaxy user is never informed about this. This is our data, so we should be informed about it being deleted. Call history can be very critical and useful at times. Also, with most phones having 128 GB of memory, there is no point in deleting this data: even a million phone call histories would use less than 400 KB of storage data. The worst part is that there is no way to express you do not want Samsung to delete your call history. Please let us know if you know how to stop Samsung from deleting your call history data.

If you do not believe me that your call history gets partly deleted every time you receive/make a phone call: use a call log backup tool (like SMS Backup & Restore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore) and backup your call history:

  • If you have a new Samsung phone, Samsung is deleting all your call history above 2000 received/made calls. You will never be able to go above as your data gets partly auto-deleted by Samsung.

  • If you have a less recent Samsung phone (like a Galaxy S8, so not so old), Samsung is even deleting all your call history above 500 received/made calls. You will never be able to go above as your data gets partly auto-deleted by Samsung.shizz_1-1721073439072.png

Depending on the number of calls you make/receive, your call history can be very limited: if you receive/make 12 calls a day, even on a brand new Galaxy phone (2000 limit), you only have 6 months of call history. Regards

I don't get your issue?

you can request call history from your carrier if you don't have access already

If I understand you correctly, you're unhappy that the native Samsung Phone App only stores 2000 entries, after which it will need to delete to allow new call records to come in?

You may not be aware as I'm assuming you haven't researched, all mobile devices have a limit......

Google Pixel 6 series for example only hold around 1000.

Samsung holding 2000 is actually one of the huge m higher storage options. Research it.

Also remember you can back up your data......

So, it only deletes calls once it reaches 2000. I don't think it ever deleted any on mine and if it did, and I cared to check, there are perpetual backups. And, limit is well known

First time I've ever heard of this personally. I have extreme doubts it's well known by the general android user. Lots of friends, family and work colleagues will come to me for help or advice with their smartphones and it's insane how little they know about anything quite frankly. As someone who personally prefers not to call too much, I've only got 1290 calls saved so I've got a long way to go before hitting the limit of 2000 but I'm grateful that the OP pointed this out to me so I can now think about whether or not I'll care if and when I do approach the limit. Does seem somewhat arbitrary to me to have a limit on such data when the storage requirements are so extremely low, but maybe there is a good reason as this is not an area I know much about.

I mean I personally don't care about call history (especially anything passed a few weeks ago) but it also doesn't make sense to have such a relatively small call history, given that that this is just text data which doesn't really take space (and assuming it's stored locally). Somebody obviously picked 2000 thinking it would be fine for the average user but it does seems like an arbitrary small number that can be reached. 10 calls per day (which seems reasonable for someone using it for business) for 200 days would already reach the limit.

Not sure why people feel the need to argue for this when they're essentially arguing for kilobytes in times where even the cheapest of phones have tens of gigabytes of storage.

Seems ridiculous that it can't be set by the owner. Text takes up such little memory.. I can certainly understand wanting more call history for someone that makes a lot of calls.
