The YouTube app causes my Samsung phone to overheat after a random amount of time. Since I can’t uninstall and reinstall the app, clearing the cache and storage or force stopping it only provides a temporary fix. This issue seems to be specific to the YouTube app, as it only started happening in the past few weeks. As a YouTube Premium subscriber, this makes the app nearly unusable.

On Reddit you can see a lot of similar posts.

2 things really make the phone warm up (S24u). Commenting on YouTube whilst watching video, and casting to a TV or Chromecast using the phone like a remote control for YouTube. I don't see it as a Samsung issue. Although it is worse with s23+ and S24u than it was with Google pixel 8 pro. It was worst of all on Sony 5iv on android 14 which ate the battery at over 1 percent a minute. I briefly had a Vivo x100 and also affected with media tech. Snapdragon processors seem to be problematic. But is that because they have more power to give if they're stuck on full power? On a cheap Motorola the problem is still there but less noticeable simply because the maximum processing power is so much less. So affects battery less but kills the performance instead. YouTube definitely has an issue and YouTube music is not perfect either. Seems like we need to limit the maximum cache. My S24u was using over 1gb. Be interesting to see what happens now I've cleared it.

Yes. I also noticed that it overheats the moment the cache goes close to one gig. I've also heard from another person on Reddit (maybe you) that the comment feature might be the culprit.

I've noticed within the last month or 2 that if I'm actively watching videos on YouTube for more than about 20 minutes straight (not in the background or anything) on my S24 Ultra, the phone is hot to the touch, and my battery plummets. This is a newer problem, as I've had my S24 Ultra for about a year, and never had this problem with my S23 Ultra. When I cleared the cache and the date for the first time, it was holding onto about 10GB. I've noticed that if I watch shorts intermittently during a video, or leave a comment on a video the heat up happens more quickly, and the app cache goes up more quickly.

Yeah. Most people appear to have similar issues with the cache and commenting etc. have you reported the issue to Samsung via a ticket on the members app? The more people report the issue the better
