I have an S23 and also use an Iphone for work    I was anxiously awaiting the new Android 14 release with hopes they added a simple function, like, wake the phone and display a text message, or other type of selected notification,  like IOS. Well, didnt happen. The only thing I can recommend is download the Verizon Messages app, which will wake the phone and give  pop up. Even Google messages or the native Samsung messages app will not do this basic, function. I will probably sell my S23 because of this. Who wants to hear a ding for a new message, then have to unlock the phone, then open the notification or messaging app, just to quickly read a message, especialy if you are doing dishes or cooking.   Stupid that they havent done this yet. Heck my old HTC OG phone had this function! Oh look, While writing this, a new message popped up on my Iphone and I just had to simply look down and read it, with no user input.  A "Bazillion" dollar company like Samsung, can put this function into their software, cmon man.  Anyone want to buy an S23 Ultra.

It's not just iPhones that wake the phone to display notifications. My Pixel did it and lots/all of my previous android devices did.

I cannot believe that Samsung phones don't do this basic thing and it's so incredibly annoying and stupid, that I won't consider another Samsung device again.

I can't even find a third party work around. Some suggest aod notify, but it doesn't work.

I've suggested this feature to Samsung via their feedback portal, but we all know nobody reads them. It's a BASIC feature that SHOULD already be incorporated.

The pop up options imply that this should work as we expect it to, but it doesn't.

If you set it to 'brief' text messages will show a few words in a tiny dynamic island-style pop up, but detailed view just doesn't work at all.

We need a wake phone in detailed view mode to be implemented like EVERY other phone has. A 10 years old £50 budget phone can do this but the S23 can't!1700638105396.jpg

You can make the always-on display only turn on for notifications in settings, and you can also in notification settings turn on edge lighting style and change it to the most noticeable one.

Or change notifications to show full content on lock screen

Unfortunatley, Yes.. I switched to an IPhone and the notifications are great.  I have my S23 sitting in a drawer and is up for sale. Was curious if the S24 changed its notification alerts. It still baffles me how a big ass company like Samsung with a bazillion developers, cant give an option for  a simple screen off alert other than a stupid icon or a 3 second view on the screen that pops up that takes 2 or 3 clicks to view it.

Wake Up Screen app on playstore from SymeonChen is perfect to wake the screen up. works 100%. Was driving me mad not being able to see notifications.
