question regarding eSIM upon startup

This is a very minor question.

Upon startup, I'll see an eSIM icon with the number 2 inside of it with the text, eSIM 1, along side it.  This is before I enter the four digit unlock code for my eSIM.

Why do I see that  number 2 within an eSIM icon?  Is that to inform me there is the possibility of having two eSIMs?

Like I said, a minor question.

I believe esims get allocated to your second imei number by default so it always uses slot 2 regardless if you have a physical sim in or just an esim. That's what I noticed with mine even with previous phones.

You can have 2 SIMs in your phone so I think it means either 1 physical SIM + 1 esim or 2 esims. I hope this helps

I think it's a bit confusing as it works differently with eSIMs. Your comment made me check my SIM tray as I thought you could only have 1 Physical SIM but you can have SIM1 and SIM2 on front and back of tray so I've learned something. I think you can have more than one eSIM in fact some phones can have 5 or 6 eSIM profiles stored but the question is how many can be active at the same time. If I understand it correctly on Samsung phones you can't have 2 eSIMs from the same carrier but you can if you have different carriers https://www.samsung.com/ae/support/mobile-devices/how-many-esims-can-i-add/#:~:text=Only%20one%20eSI...)

Thank you, to be honest I'm not 100% sure I have only ever had 1 physical and 1 eSIM so I can't confirm. I did have a long conversation with EE technical support when I first got this phone about eSIMs as I got myself into a pickle as I deleted the eSIM from my old phone before I activated it on my new phone so I couldn't get the activation code meaning a trip to the store to get a new SIM, apparently the direction is against physical SIMs and more emphasis will be put onto eSIMs moving forward
