Just got the new UI update and it has made Smart Select completely useless now.

I used to use smart select all the time for quickly and easily sending pre-cropped screenshots either using the edge panel shortcut or the double tap s-pen shortcut. But since it's now been turned into "AI Select" it's basically useless. 

It now takes longer to use because of the stupid sparkle animation they've added and waiting to initialise the AI (that I'll never bloody use) than to just take a full-screen screenshot and then crop it.

Please, for the live of God samsung, let us turn off the AI or have AI select and Smart select as 2 separate things on the phone.

It isn't. I work in a phone shop i deal with phones all day I know the feature.

There's circle to search, and then there was smart select.

Smart select was just a nice easy way of doing a screenshot that was only a portion of the screen. Like the snipping tool in windows.

The new ui update has now added the annoying features, that are still within circle to search and bixby vision to the smart select.


What I'm complaining about is the fact they took a good standalone feature and ruined it by tacking on the AI features that are already available elsewhere on the phone.

I'm simply venting my frustration a really good standalone feature had been ruined by stupid AI things.

Then I'm being told it's part of Gemini when it isn't. (Smart select has been around way longer. And I don't have Gemini on my phone and still having this issue with the new crappy implementation of the update)

I agree. For some reason, the function now always tries to detect text by default, and you need to turn off text detection after selecting it to simply take a screenshot of a fragment of the screen. And the launch of this option is slow - I hoped that in One UI 7 it would be made faster.

Can you explain what type of things you could use smart select for? Circle to search can do exactly the same thing. You should give it a try.

If I just don't want to send screenshots of my screen to Google and just make screenshot - not find it in Google like Circle to Search do it by default.

You don't have to, it's got the share option which simply allows you to share exactly the same as smart select with exactly the same choices. I use quick share a lot between devices this way and it works perfectly fine here too.

Honestly though, I don't know how it works on the S24 series, but AI select is slick and fast on the S25 Ultra.

Circle to search NOT work the same way as Smart Sel

When you use Circle to search it's immediately search it in the internet. I don't want send all what I screen shoot to Google and that the way Smart Select work.
