Just got the new UI update and it has made Smart Select completely useless now.

I used to use smart select all the time for quickly and easily sending pre-cropped screenshots either using the edge panel shortcut or the double tap s-pen shortcut. But since it's now been turned into "AI Select" it's basically useless. 

It now takes longer to use because of the stupid sparkle animation they've added and waiting to initialise the AI (that I'll never bloody use) than to just take a full-screen screenshot and then crop it.

Please, for the live of God samsung, let us turn off the AI or have AI select and Smart select as 2 separate things on the phone.

AI is one of those things that Google has implemented into its android software.
I'm afraid that it's something you need to get used to as its going to get more integrated into apps etc over time.
If you think that you will go with Apple. Well they have Apple Intelligence to do basically the same stuff. Although it's no where near as good currently

Thing is the more you use the features the more you get to enjoy it and it's always learning. So will get better and quicker over time
Also the more you use it, you will learn to get more efficient with the features

In this case it's nothing to do with the Google AI.

Smart select was added alongside the s-pen, they've now replaced it with AI select. It does the same thing but has to wait for the AI to wake up before letting me select what I want. It took a feature that was amazing and allowed me to take a pre-cropped screenshot in less than a second and added a mandatory 5-second delay while it waits for the AI to scan it even when I have no intentions of using the AI.


They should, and easily could, have made AI select a completely separate thing from Smart Select but chose not to. It's entirely on Samsung and is entirely a stupid decision

And why do you think it's called Smart select? AI has been with us for a lot longer than you think, it's just not been as obvious and the term hasn't been used that often. Smartphones, what do you think makes them smart? 🙄

Well yesterday I was using smart select like i have been for ages. With no delay and no AI featurs tacked on.

Today I have an update and suddenly the feature is slower and less useful.

Why couldn't they have just left Smart select as it was and then added an optional AI select

I believe this is down to Google's AI… not much Samsung can do here. Ai is the future for both android/IOS and wont be changed back anytime soon, ever.

Don't resist Gemini, Gemini can be a very pleasant and flawless Assistant if you let it. The same awaits you with the iPhone with its AI 😆

Or you can buy A serries low budget Samsung with much less AI
