So I've gone from an s21 ultra to a fold 4 to a s23 ultra.

The camera on the s23 ultra 200mp and 50mp and auto 4:3 are all worse by a substantial amount compared to the s21 ultra. So much so I have had to grab my wife's iPhone 14 pro max to compare. I hate iphone with a passion. Pictures were always so much better . But now her iphone is a lot better than the s23 ultra camera.

Is this a software/processing issue that will be fixed in an update. Its do much of a downgrade I'm close to switching to apple, don't make me switch tell me a fix is coming.

Apart from the disappointment of the camera's the phone is amazing fast fluid handles anything you throw at it, dex works seamlessly. Outstanding work samsung.

Just fix the camera.

It's usually just a preferential quality and highly subjective. If you honestly feel the S23 camera is this poor to the iPhone, I'm uncertain any update will change that (barring any hardware faults).

I must stress though, that anyone that's reviewed both these cameras, side by side, tipped the favour to the Samsung.

Apart from several since release are unhappy with the front camera so reports say.
I think it is post processing so an update would fix it. S21 ultra was certainly much better.

You're referring to the selfie camera?

No I'm referring to the main camera. 200mp 50mp and auto use. Is diabolical compared to s21 ultra s20, note 10+ s7 s6. See I've been using Samsung for years always been better than the competitors.
Everything about the 23 ultra is outstanding except the camera is a massive let down right now. The second you soon in on an image you can instantly see noise and blur the quality just isn't there like it used to be .
Right now it's wait for update to.camera
Change back to the s21 ultra
Or make the dreaded change to apple.

I've got both my S21 and S23 Ultras right with me. Hands down the 200MP absolutely blows away the 108MP in my eyes. There's no comparison in terms of sharpness, noise reduction and colour reproduction (although this one goes back and forth). Personally I feel the red colours in photo's on the S23 Ultra are slightly worse off than previous Samsung cameras, however the majority of the palette is far more accurate.

When taking photo's on auto (Using 200MP vs 108MP), I think the S23 Ultra does a better job in the overall scene. The S21 Ultra has a sharper somewhat more contrasty image, vs the softer heavily noise reduced image of the S23 Ultra. But as a whole, both take similar photo's. It's when you punch in you see the real differences, but as zoom increases, the 200MP shots look softer but cleaner. To me this is a personal taste and completely subjective, however there are many cases where the detail levels of the S23 Ultra show through.

Have you tried using Expert Raw and Pro Mode? Initially, my first thoughts were that the camera wasn't as great as the reviews made it out to be. But after taking a number of photos, trying out Raw and Pro, playing around with the settings such as ISO, EV, White Balance etc...., I'm confident this phone's camera system is brilliant.

Would love to take 1 picture that oops better with the 23 than the 21. 23 is so noisy, zooming in for details you mention when examining photos the noise increases round the edges ten fold at 200mp than the 21

That may be the only.way to go. Unfortunately I do prefer the point and click though. Having 4 kids I like to be able to shoot some pics of videos quick.
After image processing just doesn't seem to be where it used to be. Maybe manually going through pro mode will fix it . Bit.of a ball ache though.

Hmm this isn't the case with my shots. The S21 Ultra is clearly noisier, with somewhat more contrast details but the image is messier. The S23 Ultra to me looks softer, but retains a better dynamic range offering less crushed details in darker areas and has huge noise reduction. Looking at zoomed in texture of objects for example, you can see much cleaner and reduced noise overall, giving a more pleasing image even heavily zoomed in. This does come at the cost of some lost contrast detail, but I haven't seen enough to say it's distinctly worse. At full scale the differences are near imperceptible other than obvious colour tone and saturation differences.

The edge noise you see, I don't see that from either phone, both have clear divides with minor noise but if I'm being picky, the S23 Ultra just edges it with less colour bleed between contrasting objects than the S21 Ultra.

Maybe they've sold me a faulty phone. But it's 100% worse then the 21 and very noisy when examining images in detail.
