So I've gone from an s21 ultra to a fold 4 to a s23 ultra.

The camera on the s23 ultra 200mp and 50mp and auto 4:3 are all worse by a substantial amount compared to the s21 ultra. So much so I have had to grab my wife's iPhone 14 pro max to compare. I hate iphone with a passion. Pictures were always so much better . But now her iphone is a lot better than the s23 ultra camera.

Is this a software/processing issue that will be fixed in an update. Its do much of a downgrade I'm close to switching to apple, don't make me switch tell me a fix is coming.

Apart from the disappointment of the camera's the phone is amazing fast fluid handles anything you throw at it, dex works seamlessly. Outstanding work samsung.

Just fix the camera.

Without sharing images of the kids this is a perfectly still image . Initially looks good. But the noise around the edge the haze you see is even .ore prevalent when taking images of people or anything with more detail than a basic shape.
This is also taken about 30cm from the subject. Anything outside that distance so a standard picture of kids playing or location when zooming the noise is amplified even greater . The 21 ultra would remain ultra sharp even when zooming it to your images as far as you could. And edges always better. It's worth it though. You can set your Pro Mode up with automatic ISO, EV, White Balance, set it on 50MP and that's it. Then you will have a choice of the main photo section and Pro, depending on your scenario.

Also, make sure you give your camera lens a good wipe too. I found even the smallest of smudges will affect the quality.

2 feet away electric fan Well lit room.
Zoom in on detail noisy very noisy. 21 ultra never performed as bad as this.Screenshot_20230226_195642_Gallery_1000000428_1677441402.jpgScreenshot_20230226_195654_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20230226_195707_Gallery.jpg

There are some very subjective differences between the cameras. Both have qualititative differences that will suit one preference over another. For example, the S23 Ultra in my opinion has a very strong performance when capturing blacks and dark surfaces/objects. My Black Cat looks way more detailed with much better colour definition compared to my S21 Ultra. This also applies to shaded and dark areas where colour contrast is much better captured allowing more detail to the scene. On the other hand, the images do tend to exhibit a very yellowish and warmer tone in indoor lighting compared to my S21 Ultra, but do appear more "realistic". Personally I do prefer the cooler tone from the S21 Ultra, but it's a subjective difference. I do think the focal range is slightly closer with the S21 Ultra, but overall image sharpness can be better achieved with the S23 Ultra. As a mere point and shoot camera though, I preferred the S23 Ultra as I feel it does a better job on average over the S21 Ultra. Do bare in mind this is a brand new image sensor from Samsung in post release camera software compared to nearly a 2 year old optimised camera system in the S21 Ultra. The S21 Ultra camera was far from perfect post release and a shadow of what it achieves today. Video was poor for example (and still is compared to the S23 Ultra) in medium to low lighting conditions. For what it is at this moment, I do think the camera on the S23 Ultra is very solid with much potential.

Samsung always improves their image quality with updates but I find older S21 Ultra was awful. Especially shooting into sunlight images had the old mushy image noise of older Samsungs. The S23 Ultra is super sharp and detailed especially I find using 50mp resolution. And nothing beats it's zoom quality.

The noise in 23 series is a known issue that Samsung is also aware of but hasn't fixed it yet. Dxomark also mentioned the same issue and as an owner of a s23, I confirm it's true. You can't fix it unless you use a compatible gcam.

I just wonder how those paid/sponsored YouTube reviewers never mention it while it's quite obvious. Colors aren't true to life, noise is there and oversharpening of all photos... Don't you check it before you release the phone? @Samsung!

Is that how you're trying to compete with Pixel or iPhone? Releasing a phone with obvious camera issues and then trying to fix the problems is the method of cheap phone makers...

Totally agree about. S23 Ultra photo quality. 200Mp at iso 100, no zoom, so grainy and noisy.

Is it different in different countries.. I find images in bright daylight are far better on the 12mp lens. The 50 and 200 are blurred and lack detail

It seems likely to me that the cameras in the 21U and 22U have been optimized over time by Samsung with software updates, and the cameras in the 23U are still waiting for their first one. With time the 23U should be noticeably improved but there's the thing: we're waiting for the updates from Samsung. In my region we haven't seen the March update yet and the month is pretty much over. My hope is that the delay is a result of the fixes that are coming. Fingers crossed.
