Hi,
I wonder, why I cannot scan a NFC while my Galaxy S22 ultra is locked?
I think, this will be a new "security" function for NFC payment function, because I remember this works years ago.....
But it is a big disadvantage for using NFC for Smart Home applications!!
Has this function been disabled on newer android versions or did I miss a settings?
If it was introduced for payment security reason, I wonder if it could be possible to add the function "NFC active on locked phone" or to only apply this security function for NFC payment purpose and not for all NFC usage!?
As a convinced Samsung (Android) user, I had to let a friend (iPhone freak) show me that this works without any problems on his iPhone...., and Apple is also known that they take the topic of security very seriously.
That confused me a lot and I would be very happy if it would also work with my device.
Many thanks

hi @ynneL
Thanks for your post.
Did you also try scanning a NFC tag for other purpose then payment?
If you have a tag, I would be grateful if you could try that, because I must unlock my Galaxy S22 Ultra to scan a NFC tag (for non payment purpose).
As I do not use NFC payment, I don't know if I could make this without unlocking on my phone....
However, I would be very surprised if the scanning of a tag only worked with an unlocked device but payment was also possible with a locked phone.

Having similar thoughts as well. Seeing as though this feature was implemented within the first Android 12 beta and final release on Pixels.
On a Pixel device it can be accessed via Connected devices.
Connected devices>Connection preferences>NFC>Require device unlock for NCF
There is an option to turn this feature on and off there. Which I find odd that this isn't the case among any Android devices that I'm aware of. I'd love if Samsung allowed this for NFC routines. This is especially annoying with a Z Flip.

Oh yes, using a Z Flip or any other foldable phone, as well using protective cover with front flap, makes it all that much worse.... I haven't even thought about that.
Considering these circumstances (facts), I think that the use of NFC should definitely be possible even in the locked state. In my opinion, by an additional setting where the user can activate that function.
I wonder if we could somewhere share new feature requests, to ANDROID and/or SAMSUNG...?

Hi @WR-911 , And thanks!
I've forwarded this suggestion on to our developers. Me or one of the other moderators will let you know what they reply with.

No worries @WR-911.
The developers have got back to us, and have advised that they'll be looking for more users who'd like this (or similar) feature before considering implementing it, so I'd encourage anyone else out there who would like it to say so here. 👍

I would love to see this feature added.

Would love this feature too!

Hi @AntS
Many thanks for the status feedback.
However, I hope the development department is aware that only a part of the mobile phone users romp around in the forums and try to solve their problems/worries!?
Many people will take the easy route and get a cell phone that supports the required functions from the start....!?
That's why I don't expect so many requests and thumbs up for this function here in this post.
Would find it a shame to have to switch phone brands because I would miss some feature too much over time.
So, I hope Samsung will keep up with the times and will implement this function, as home automation is becoming an increasingly important topic.
The implementation shouldn't mean a lot of effort, but Samsung as a mobile phone manufacturer will take a further step forward in terms of functionality
Kind regards

This feature would make my S22 Ultra SO much more useful to control smart devices etc.! Considering Samsungs role in home automation with Bixby, Routines and Matter, this should be a no brainer. And as others have already said: PLEASE bear in mind that most people don't browse forums like this one - and even less sign in just to reply!
