Hi,
I wonder, why I cannot scan a NFC while my Galaxy S22 ultra is locked?
I think, this will be a new "security" function for NFC payment function, because I remember this works years ago.....
But it is a big disadvantage for using NFC for Smart Home applications!!
Has this function been disabled on newer android versions or did I miss a settings?
If it was introduced for payment security reason, I wonder if it could be possible to add the function "NFC active on locked phone" or to only apply this security function for NFC payment purpose and not for all NFC usage!?
As a convinced Samsung (Android) user, I had to let a friend (iPhone freak) show me that this works without any problems on his iPhone...., and Apple is also known that they take the topic of security very seriously.
That confused me a lot and I would be very happy if it would also work with my device.
Many thanks

As far as I know you cannot use nfc without unlocking it

It would defeat the security if you could make payments without unlocking the phone.

Steal a phone and make payments straight away... That would be mad

Hi Robot,
Yes, you may be right and I understand the basic idea behind, but I would like more flexibility and the opportunity to decide myself how "freely" I want to use my phone :).
As already written, it works well on Apple devices and I think that there is definitely a way to implement this in such a way that there would be no greater risk.
I don't know exactly, but I think that Apple makes a difference whether NFC is used for a payment purpose or for another NFC use, because the iPhone has also to be unlocked when making a payment, but nor for other NFC readings like NFC tags for smart home control.

Hi @WR-911

I use Google Pay with my Samsung Galaxy s²² Ultra and I'm pretty sure I just wake my phone up by pressing the power button or double tap on the screen in order to make a payment when at a shop using the phone.

Are you using Samsung Wallet ?

Daily Driver > Samsung Galaxy s²⁵ Ultra 512Gb ~ Titanium Black.

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.
I'm here to help. " This is the way. "

Not true the payment will work as long as NFC is on and you wake the screen up

Did you still need to use fingerprint to make payment? Or just wake it?

Just wake the screen up by either pressing the power key or by tapping the screen

Hi @BandOfBrothers
Thanks for your post.
In fact, i don't know how my phone will react on NFC payment, because I don't use this function.
So I also don't use wallet.
My problem did not point on NFC payment, but on using NFC for other purpose, like starting a function/routine on my smart home system, by scanning an NFC tag.
