I cannot figure this out so looking for advice.

I recently switched to O2 from Vodafone.

My new O2 Sim card only works in SIM card slot 2, but when it is in slot 1, it just says emergency calls only.

I have tried other sim cards in slot 1 and they work fine (but only a vodafone sim), as I don't have any other spares for different network.

I have tried my new O2 Sim in another phone and the sim works fine there.

It looks like I have eliminated the phone being the issue, but also the sim card seems fine except when It is in slot 1.

Can an individual SIM slot become locked to a certain network?

The IMEI is not blacklisted for slot 1.

Does anyone have a clue?

I did have an issue with Vodafone when they accidentally blacklisted my phone after I asked for proof of usage for an insurance claim to repair the screen, but this was ages ago and they remo ed the blacklist. Is it possible they removed the black, but somehow restricted slot 1 to only accept Vodafone sim cards?

Hi,
Try going to settings
Sim manager
And check sim 2 is enabled
Or sim 1 is enabled

Thanks for replying.

I have turned the sim off and then back on again to see if that worked. Unfortunately I got a message saying 'SIM 1 NOT ALLOWED'.

Emergency Calls Only appeared again.

The SIM card actually works when the WiFi is on through WiFi calling, bur doesn't work any other time.

Turning on/off airplane mode doesn't fix this either.

You may need to call Vodafone and check that the sim is enabled

If the Vodafone sim was in Sim 1 and that was the imei number you gave then it's conceivable that some how this has affected that slot when they blacklisted and then removed the blacklist.

A factory reset may or may not help with this. No guarantees.

You may just have to go with just putting the o2 sim permanently in Slot 2.

I purchased my Samsung Galaxy s²³ Ultra from Samsung UK and haven't had any of the two sim slots blacklisted but my o2 sim slot does seem to prefer Sim Slot 2 and works fine.

It shows as no signal in Sim Slot 1. Yet my ee sim works fine in Slot 1.

Certainly a conundrum.

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.

Sounds very much that the phone is locked. Contact Vodafone to unlock
