Samsung forcing screen lock

Hi

I've recently upgraded to an S22 and got myself a galaxy watch 4. I'm finding on both devices that Samsung is trying to force me to set a phone/watch lock method (e.g. PIN, pattern) . I can't use Samsung Wallet (Samsung Pay) or Samsung Health Monitor on my phone without setting a screen lock. This is ridiculous. Even my mobile banking app doesn't force me to set a lock on my phone, only on the app. Samsung Pay on my old phone used to make the user enter a pin when paying which makes sense.

The watch also forces me to unlock it whenever I take it off and on. On my old galaxy watch I only needed to unlock it when using Samsung Pay for the 1st time on the day. Whilst it's always good to have security, I don't get why Samsung feel it's their responsibility to force customers to set security locks. Is there any way around this? Am I the only one who finds this nannying attitude silly?

Hi @robablob

I had the same on my phone and Watch⁴ Classic when activating Google Pay.

I appreciate it's a security protocol and I'd be unhappy if unauthorised use happened, but I also appreciate how inconvenient it can be due to the locks.

For this reason I disabled Google Pay on the watch⁴, and now just use my phone to pay for items using Google Pay.

The advice I offer is my own and does not represent Samsung’s position.
I'm here to help. " This is the way. "

Hi @robablob, You can keep your phone unlocked for extended periods of time using the Smart lock option. Depending upon how you set it up, it will remain unlocked as long as it is connected to a specific device or is at a specific location or detects that you are carrying it with you.

Agree that the lock should be on the app, rather on the device. Having said that, it's good to have security on the phone, just in case it is stolen or such situations where you don't want other people to get access to your phone.
