That's unusual for this to happen after an update !
Was this a software update ?
As a starting point try a soft reboot by turning the phone Off and then back On.
If that does not help then consider trying these.

@BabyBelle: When you open an app, does the sound work initially, then stop, or is it persistently silent? Have you tried heading to Settings > Sounds and vibration > Volume, and making sure that your System and Media volume sliders are at a suitable level? If they are then, next time the issue occurs, can you try pressing the Volume Up button on the side of the phone to see if you're able to raise the volume in this manner?
Are all vibration features currently not working e.g notifications, touch interactions, vibrate while ringing, or is it a certain app or feature you're having issues with?
Regarding your charging issue, are you using the USB cable that came packaged with the phone? If so, are you using a plug socket adapter, or connecting to a USB device with a power supply, such as a home computer?
