S22 Ultra Screen Refresh Rate Issue / Jerky Videos

Hi there.

I just received my new S22 Ultra. I love every bit of this phone however I do notice an issue with refresh rate when set to "adaptive". When watching videos it looks like the image is jerky. Not sure if it a sudden and quick screen refresh rate drop or something else but it is very noticeable specially when watching high quality videos.

Would this be fixed with an update or there is an issue with the phone? I really don't want to send my phone away for replace or anything. 😞

Does anyone else have issues with FPS when set to high / adaptive?

Btw I tried lowering the resolution ect but it seems only the screen refresh rate setting is affecting the phone

Anyways. Please let me know your thoughts.

Stay safe all

I think you're right on spot with what you're saying about that phone. As of 04-07-2022, video recording & playback is lagging on my s22+. Certainly related to that refresh rate being throttled while the screen isn't touched. Samsung still didn't fix the issue since last firmware update though.

This is legit bug that needs to be address. This jerking motion on videos is not acceptable on flagship devices.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one with this issue. Got the phone 2 days ago and tried so many things to sort this. Found tapping the Facebook video every 5 to 10 seconds stop the refresh rate dropping. Terrible issue that needs sorting. Samsung has to be aware of this! Was absolutely fine on my Fold3.

I've been experiencing the same frame drops in my S22 ultra, so i tried diving deep into the issue and in the process i enabled Show refresh rate in developer options to check the fluctuations in the frame-rate doing so i found out that while watching content (in this case on Disney+) the refresh rate was continuously shifting from 24fps to 120 fps. Also tried the same thing after disabling Adaptive refresh rate the result was more or less the same so i think its clearly software related. Also for me this issue is not present while i am on Netflix/YT/Amazon Prime.

I too have the same issue and have found the only simple way to improve the situation is to reduce to fixed 60 Hz. Having got the phone (S22U-512gb) partly to be able to watch on-line vids etc. I am quite disappointed (Samsung are you listening?). My previous S20+5G certainly didn't have these problems as you could fix it to 120Hz (which reading the other comments appears to be the root of the problem). I presume the adaptive refresh rate was to try to improve battery life, but why not fix the issue, or allow a fixed refresh rate in the meantime via an update?

Not much help, but add to the list of people complaining about it in the hope that it goes up the priority list!!

If you install an app to be able to display both rendered FPS and actual screen refresh rate you'll see a clear improvement in behavior when locking it to 60hz, however the only thing that will make videos not drop frames or stutter at all is holding a finger on the display while in adaptive mode. This is so terribly crappy and I feel bad for everyone paying big bucks for a flagship phone and recieving this piece of junk. I work for a major telco and trust me we are not happy at all with this, but Samsung doesn't give a ***** unfortunately.

I second this in S22 Ultra. Samsung need to fix this asap. Expensive flagship cannot have video playback issues considering they advertised this as a content creators phone.

Thank god i found this topic. Ive written about this problem before also. It's so annoying, why they just dont fix this? Is it that much hard?

It would also be nice to hear if people who commented here before have found a solution for this.

No solution so far... To my knowledge. Samsung seems to not care.
