S22 not showing my laptop hotspot network

Hello.

My phone (S22, Android 14, OneUI 6.1) does not recognize the network of my laptop (Windows 11, ASUS TUF A15), when I turn the hotspot on. (and I do not see its name displayed).

I already tried: restarting phone and computer, changing Hotspot name and password, changing frequency from 2,4 to 5 Hz and back, deleting all networks saved on phone and reseting wifi settings to factory settings on phone then restaring it, checked for updates on phone and laptop - none. Nothing worked.

The problem seems to be only with specific networks. Some networks around me are displayed (although my laptop can detect more networks than the phone). There are no more settings I could change on the phone or laptop as i tried almost everything I have read.

The problem is both for my phone and my tablet (both Samsung). The only "questanable" thing that happened today is that my laptop lost Ethernet/LAN connection,  I followed the recommendation by windows to restart the adapter, which reestablished the connection, and I saw the phone problem a little later. Restarting the adapter normally does not affect the phone or tablets ability to connect to WIFI/Hotspot as I have done it from time to time when the Ethernet connection was lost and then the phone could connect normally to the laptop Hotspot - and my phone always has recognized the network until now.

I would appreciate your help.

It sounds like you've done a very thorough job troubleshooting the issue on your own, and it's frustrating when common solutions don't work. Given that both your phone and tablet are experiencing the same problem connecting to your laptop's hotspot, and other networks are visible on your phone, the issue is almost certainly originating from your laptop's hotspot functionality, even though other devices can see more networks.
Here are some additional troubleshooting steps and considerations, moving from simpler to more advanced:
1. Revisit Laptop Network Adapter Settings (Beyond Restarting):
* Update Network Drivers Manually: Even if Windows says your drivers are up to date, sometimes a clean install of the latest driver from the manufacturer (ASUS or the Wi-Fi chip manufacturer like Intel, Realtek, Broadcom) can resolve elusive issues.
* Go to the ASUS support website for your specific TUF A15 model.
* Locate the "Drivers & Utility" section.
* Download the latest Wireless LAN driver for your Windows 11 system.
* Before installing: Go to Device Manager (Win + X, then select "Device Manager").
* Expand "Network adapters."
* Right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter and select "Uninstall device." Crucially, check the box that says "Attempt to remove the driver software for this device" if it appears.
* Restart your laptop.
* Install the downloaded driver.
* Reset Network Settings (Windows 11): This is a more drastic reset than just restarting the adapter.
* Go to Settings (Win + I).
* Click on Network & internet.
* Scroll down and click on Advanced network settings.
* Under "More settings," click on Network reset.
* Click Reset now and confirm. Your laptop will restart. This will remove all network adapters and reinstall them, effectively resetting all networking components to their default settings. You'll need to re-enter Wi-Fi passwords for any networks you connect to on your laptop.
* Check for Bluetooth Interference: While less common, sometimes Bluetooth can interfere with Wi-Fi, especially if both are on the same 2.4 GHz band. Try temporarily disabling Bluetooth on your laptop and then testing the hotspot.
2. Command Prompt Diagnostics (Run as Administrator):
* Renew IP Configuration:
* Open Command Prompt as administrator (Win + X, then "Terminal (Admin)" or "Command Prompt (Admin)").
* Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
* Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
* Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
* Reset Winsock Catalog: This can fix issues with how Windows handles network connections.
* Open Command Prompt as administrator.
* Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
* Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.
* Restart your computer.
3. Hotspot Configuration Specifics:
* "Broadcast Network Name" or "SSID Broadcast": Ensure this option is enabled in your laptop's hotspot settings. While you mentioned your phone doesn't see the name, sometimes this setting can be toggled by other issues.
* Go to Settings (Win + I).
* Click on Network & internet.
* Click on Mobile hotspot.
* Ensure "Broadcast network name" is toggled On.
* Temporary Disable Firewall/Antivirus: Briefly disable your Windows Defender Firewall and any third-party antivirus/firewall software on your laptop to see if they are blocking the hotspot broadcast. Remember to re-enable them immediately after testing.
4. Check for Conflicting Software:
* VPN Software: If you have any VPN software installed on your laptop (even if not currently active), it can sometimes interfere with network adapters. Try temporarily uninstalling it to see if it resolves the issue.
* Other Network Utilities: Any other software that manages or optimizes network connections could be a culprit.
5. Consider a Clean Boot:
* A "clean boot" can help determine if a background program is interfering.
* Search for "System Configuration" and open it.
* Go to the "Services" tab.
* Check "Hide all Microso

To be honest- ive noticed this on windows devices especially- I was stuck using mobile data for a few months after moving and it was VERY iffy on my pc- Most of the time resorted to turning both wifi off on the pc- turning hot-spot off- back on and then turning wifi back on- takes several attempts but most of the time I just enabled wired hot-spot and plugged mg phone in.

Just im case be sure to update your devices drivers
https://www.asus.com/uk/support/download-center/

Download- unzip package- go to the install file and once installed all wifi/lan related drivers restart device

Hello guys, thanks for your replies!

I wanted to wait for the weekend to try and do something and wanted to share it now. On the weekend i visited a friend and connected my laptop and my phone to their router. Everything was fine.

Then I decided to do a hotspot on the laptop and see if my phone sees it. It recognized it AND connected to it AND i had internet (amazing, right?).

Well back home i try the same thing but with my laptom connected to the Ethernet cable.

My phone could recognize the network, but i always got the message "Cannot connect to internet/network".

So i am back but with a different problem (which I already had a month ago and it resolved but I didnt quite do anything special)...

I will have to see if this one resolves on its own again. I have literally had problems with my S22 phone both on this and my previous laptop for the most bizzare things.. one time i had to turn the frequencies to 2,4 Hz, because on 5 Hz my phone could only recieve messages and not load websites... so it is a new thing every time 😅

Hello, thank you for your detailed response! I wrote an update down in the comments, and it kinda resolved by itself (cannot understand how such miracles happen). Nevertheless, i have had so many problems with my phone and internet with both my current and my previous laptop, that I am not quite sure that my laptop is the only problem. But thank you very much - I would now have to find another thing to work for my new problem - phone recognizing laptop hotspot, but connecting unsuccessfully to it..
