The updates haven't had any negative impact on my sPen features.
Try > Clear Cache Files from the phone's System Partition Section > https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/mobile-devices/how-do-i-clear-the-cache-on-my-device/ You may need to insert your earphones or hook upto a powered On Laptop to access the Clear Partition Section. This may help with lag or stutters as this clears the phone of old/unused or broken cache files.There is also a Repair Apps option in the Menu System too.
And if necessary reset your sPen.

@Alexana: Please can you try placing your S Pen in its holster so it clicks into place, then head to Settings > Advanced features > S Pen > Air actions (make sure this is toggled on) > Tap the 3 dots in the top right > Reset S Pen. Now, press the Volume Down and Power buttons together for around 10 seconds until the the tablet restarts. Don't worry, this won't affect your personal data or settings. Let me know how you get on.
