Pictures from several minths and years ago suddenly show up in the gallery as being dated today. It messes up my time lines and quite annoying. How may I resolve this?

Did you edit them? Or make a change to them? I feel you as that is one of my per peeves but usually happens when I edited them or when a back restore so has today date or the app I was using removed the meta data

If meta data is removed I think it uses file date.

I have not edited them. They are mostly pictures that I received on WhatsApp or screenshot. How do I remove meta data?

I've the same issue with S23U. All the data copied via Quick share show up as today's photo and I copied about 24GB lol

Whatsapp compresses the images to send and removes the meta data and will show date sent
