Hi Community - is there anyone out there able to help. I have resolved most of my previous issues but I still do not get Gmail notifications. I only get them AFTER checking my emails which is totally pointless. How can I resolve this. It's so infuriating and driving me mad. Thanks a lot.

For those of you affected by this issue, please can you try heading to Settings > Apps > Gmail > Notifications > Show Notifications (On) > Email > Show Notifications (On). From here, make sure that Alert is enabled, and 'Show as pop up' is toggled on, then set your preferences for sound and vibration. Go back and apply the same settings to the remaining notification subcategories, such as Miscellaneous, and let me know if this helps.

Update to my Solution Additional Steps:

Make sure notifications for the applications are turned on:
Settings > Apps > {Target app} > Notifications

Second make sure you set the application to never sleeps:

Settings > Search for 'sleep' > Sleeping Apps > Never Sleeping Apps > Add app to the list

Lastly you can adjust the battery optimization (if you are using power saver mode):

Find app in apps or home screen > long press on the app > then press the i button that pops up > Battery > Unrestricted

I had the same problem on my S22+. The only thing that finally worked for me was changing the battery mode to Unrestricted for Gmail. Notifications and Never Sleeping did nothing. And no other app has this issue. Just Gmail.

As MLB4545 said:

Find Gmail app in apps or home screen > long press on the app > then press the "i" button that pops up > Battery > Unrestricted

ALSO do it again but:

Find app in apps or home screen > long press on the app > then press the "i" button that pops up in the upper right corner > Notifications > Notifications categories > click on "mail" from the email you want the notification to pop-up > enable "Alert", also "Show as a pop-up", "vibrate" & hide content on "Lock screen" if wanted it. So cool you can leave those other emails alone that you don't want the pop-up and just the vibration (or not) ❤️ love it!

It has been a problem for quite some time.
Notifications can be sent with different priority levels.
Gmail sends them at a 'normal' level that doesn't get through the Doze function.
The Doze function is always somewhat on, despite the settings you make.
Some email clients send with a higher priority and do come in immediately.
As an example, I forward all my Gmail to a Zoho mail account and have them arrive on the Zoho app on my phone.
These notifications are sent with a higher priority and it works flawlessly. Google and Samsung have so far not responded to this fact unfortunately. Read more: https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/galaxy-s9-series/delayed-notifications-issue-affecting-all-range-of-samsung/td-p/738070/page/5

Thx for that.  I ended up doing the same thing about a week ago, now using an app called canary for my gmail. So far works great

I too have been having an issue with gmail notifications on my S22Ultra. None of the setting proposed  in this thread (thank you for your posts) fixed this issue on my phone, however, following the GMAIL help instructions below, except setting Notifications to "All"  did. For some reason, default setting was "High priority only" on my phone.
