Even though I'm shining through the app on Netflix, tv shows and movies are very dark. There's nothing wrong with YouTube, but I can't watch a Netflix show. I talked to Netflix and he told me it was about the device. Is anyone else having this problem?

I've noticed the same issue and came here hoping to find a solution. I typically watch tv shows or movies in between meetings sitting in a car outside. My last phone was an S21 Ultra and I never had an issue seeing the video. With the S22 Ultra, it's dim for daylight scenes and unwatchable for dimly lit scenes.

Yes, the slider on the left of the Netflix app is turned all the way up. I've also tried:

  • Disabling adaptive brightness and turning on "Extra brightness"
  • toggling picture-in-picture for the Netflix app in the App Info menu
  • Disabling Motion Smoothness
  • Tried both Vivid and Natural screen modes
  • Tried all 3 screen resolutions (HD+, FHD+, WQHD+)

I think this is a problem with either the Netflix app or how the S22 is handling the HDR codec.  I haven't noticed the issue in any other streaming apps unless watching HDR content on Youtube. I tested some movies I found available on Netflix and another streaming services and compared them back to back.

  • Blade Runner: The Final Cut - Netflix & HBO Max

  • The Book of Eli - Netflix & HBO Max

  • Ip Man - Netflix & Prime Video

  • Dances with Wolves - Netflix & Prime Video

  • Leon: The Professional - Netflix & HBO Max

In every case, Netflix was noticeably darker. I even uninstalled and reinstalled Netflix with no luck. Hopefully the issue is resolved in the next app update (if it's an app problem and not related to HDR).

It's getting annoying dark. The device brightness is too high, but it is too dark while watching TV series. netflix has released an update but it's still the same.

Same stuff here and I'm have connection issues with smart view. I could use my 20 fe smart view and Bluetooth at same time with no problems. Now my s22 ultra won't stay stable mirroring without anything else running. I really hope they fix these problems soon

I am also experiencing this issue.

Brightness is fine outside of Netflix and within the menus but on playback too dark to watch content with the brightness slider not making any changes.

Latest phone and app updates.

Tried with different settings.

I didn't have this problem on note8 or 10.

Just updated phone software for S22 Ultra today (10-05-22) and Netflix is much better, still not great, but now at least the dark scenes are visible.
