"I am posting my solution to the problem in case it helps: S22 Ultra, UI 6.1.
Heating and extensive battery draining with contacts storage using huge resources. I have dual WhatsApp and Viber.
The following did not work: factory reset, removing dual WhatsApp and Viber, wiping cache partition. What may have worked (in order as I did the steps):
1. Wipe cache partition
2. Delete data and cache from "contacts storage" system app—you will lose your recent calls log.
3. Disabled the adaptive battery option.
4. Signed out of my Samsung account."
