As the title says, my S22 started experiencing a problem with the locking feature after the One UI 6 update. On January 4th 2024 in the middle of the day I was unable to unlock my phone with my fingerprint. I kept getting something along the lines of "Fingerprint data has been corrupted, please use the pattern to unlock your device". Problem was that even the pattern wasnt working anymore and it kept telling me "wrong pattern". I did a force restart by holding down the power button and volume down button. Once it restarted it started working normally up to 3x when unlocking before the problem started happening again. Now after 2 days it doesnt work at all and i had to remove the locking type and change it to swipe since thats the only way i can unlock my phone at this point. If i try to change it to any other locking type it tells me "Lock type has already been changed. Please try using the new lock type". I have performed both "wipe cache partition" in recovery mode and factory resetting my device but neither has fixed my issue.

This is extremely inconvenient as my bank app requires me to have a lock on my phone to use it. I've tried clearing partition cache and that didnt help. I then did a factory reset and that didnt help either.

Is anyone else having this problem or should i consider RMA-ing my phone with my carrier, as the phone was bought in August 2023? This started happening at the exact time i got the option to update to One UI 6, i don't know how that could cause this major of an issue though.

Also, if Samsung is aware of this issue, why don't they allow for alternative unlock methods such as the Samsung and/or Google account credentials?

Anyway, for anyone else finding this: I managed to sort this out on my phone with 2 soft resets (hold volume down + power until the phone turns off and the Samsung logo shows up).

It's different for everyone, soft resets didn't work for some of us but I saw that it worked for others.

I just went back to my old phone as I didn't want to factory reset due to many important documents on my phone. 3 days later after being untouched and 15% battery left I accidentally picked it up and unlocked it confusing it with the phone I went back to. I have no idea how it unlocked the pattern still wasn't working so I had to factory reset anyways but I got lucky I was given the chance to transfer everything into my portable hard drive.

My fix is just don't touch it for a 3 days or a week. Unfortunately this glitch is random and it might work for some and not for others.

The problem happened again today and no amount of soft resets sorted it out. I needed my phone so I did a factory reset. Are you people mocking your customers? Who designed this stupid system?

In India, the Customer Service as well as Service Center dont budge even if we are ready to show them original phone receipt, our identify proof such as PanCard and Aadhar card.  The issue is faulty update by Samsung which they are trying to cover up and they know they have messed up.  However, without accepting it, they are asking customers to format their phone.  Samsung team very well knows the issue is because of faulty update.  They need to be sued for this.  Laptops, internet banking, credit card, everything when gets locked, have alternative ways to unlock.  Samsung could not do this simple thing and they are in business of phones.  Shocking.  Before manufacturing phone, their team should had learnt the basics that 'what if phone gets locked'.  Asking customers to wipe out data is the most nonsense thing.  Samsung team needs to be sued to sending updates to phones that corrupts the phone.

This is still a problem after a pushed update on December 10, 2024. Sigh. First time I've experienced this. I've had the same password for 3 years.

The soft reset allowed me to login with my fingerprint (volume down + power for 10 seconds). However, I cannot change or remove my passcode in my settings as it requires me to input my current passcode which it keeps insisting is incorrect. Sigh.

Now it happened to me, on new years eve the unlock pattern on my Xcover5 suddenly stopped being recognized. I had used it to access the phone earlier that day. Unfortunately I can't even from restore backup (even on another phone) as I have this handled by google and it turns out this is encrypted with my unlock pattern and google won't accept my pattern either! Great.

At least this means the problem is not that the phone is reading the pattern I enter wrong. It seems to have changed the pattern on it's own.

Samsung engineers urgently need to look into this issue and collaborate with google so people at least can access their backups.  This is not an acceptable data loss!
