Hi
I was just told by Samsung that this phone is not compatible with android auto and cannot be used in a car to gain better functionality?
Is this correct? I find this hard to believe. I was told samsung are working on a new system.

Hey @dk474737 . I've just checked on my s21+ and Android Auto is built into it. Go into Settings > Advanced features. Here, Android Auto should appear.

Android auto works very well on my S22 Ultra. Navigation, reading/sending messages via whatsapp or stock application, playing music, etc.

My car does not support wireless connection so I need to use a cable like @Ck_

I am now using Samsung USB C to USB A cable because other cable that I normally use is not working on Samsung S22 Ultra and my car. Changing the USB cable seems to solve my problem.

Probably just turn off the phone completely and then start it again.
