When I delete an email it does NOT go to the recycle bin using samsung email  on samsung a40 mobile android 10

i too have problems deleting mail. i go through the usual routine then check back later and they're still on the widget, as if I've not even opened them

any deleted emails usually go to the recycle bin but now they are not doing that so my question is why?
