Old OS; New Security Updates

Yo! Supposing that Samsung do not update the OS, can they still provide current security updates, or are those current security updates only possible with a current OS? Uhm, can a previous OS, e.g, Android 11, be kept secure alongside a current OS, like Android 12? I do not mean on the same phone. On two different phones of the same model. Those last two sentences took a lot of brain power to produce! Peace out, suckers.

This is what sucks about Android, security patches require eachanufacturer to come up with a firmware update.

My advice comes from being a UK Samsung iPhone user.

Current Devices:
  • iPhone 14 Pro 256GB Deep Purple
  • Samsung Galaxy Buds+ > Model: SM-R175.

@Big_Ape_Toes: It does depend on which device you currently have, however we have recently committed to offering up to 5 years of security updates on selected models. If you'd like to find out more, then please check out the link below.

You'll get Google Play System updates as long as Google support Android 11 regardless of what Samsung do or not.
