Samsung A71 sound not working on call unless on loud speaker.also doesn't seem to be recording sound on video.

Same issue on Samsung A51. Both brand new

** SOLVED **

OK, so I cracked it. The A series has a major design flaw with the audio/headphone jack!

My phones thought the headphones were plugged in. That's why no sound came out and why it didn't record sound (I expect the phone thought a mic was plugged in too).

To fix, I inserted some headphones and removed them again. Hey presto, sound back on.

Samsung need to fix this. Unsure if it's a software or hardware flaw. Weird both of my phones (one of which has never had headphones plugged in except to fix it) thought they had head phones plugged in. Switching phone off and on did not fix

I'm not really sure if it's hardware or software, I'd be leaning towards hardware as on my galaxy a8 2018 once it got submerged in water and I got the same issue, but it went away after a restart. However as it is happening on 2 separate devices using the same software, I think it could be a software problem instead.

@AndrewHill: I'm glad to hear that you were able to resolve your issue. It's worth noting as well that, when playing back videos captured by the Camera app, they will play in a muted state by default. To address this, tap the speaker symbol in the bottom left corner, and make sure your system volume is at a suitable level by pressing the Volume Up key on the side of the device. For slow motion videos, tap on 'Play Slow Motion video' to enable the video's audio.

6 months on  and still no solution?! No software update fix or anything. Phone wants to output to headphones yet no headphones have been connected to device via jack or Bluetooth in months. Restarting phone hasn't worked.

I just got my phone 1 month ago and I am having this issue, the store only gave a warranty of 7 days and of course this issue started after that. Is this a software issue?

Having the same issue. Had this issue for 12 months. Had it fixed by Samsung tech team once, but a software update messed my sound up again. Samsung has gone down hill over the last 4 years. I won't be buying another after my contract ends. Always bought the high spec phones and software updates have ruined them. Battery life, processor sound. I tried a cheaper Samsung phone as it was sold to me to be the same as the s9+ which I loved until it had an update. But the A71 is terrible an update ruined my camera, it now takes 3 seconds to capture image after pressing button, resulting in blury or missed shot. But the phone is now unusable, no sound on calls 😡 really annoying. I. Need my phone! I'm going to try this headphone jack, I don't know if I have any due to never listening to music through headphones. But if I find some ill try it!

Thank you, hoping this works. 🤞
