This morning's ui8 update has left me without a phone as now the Sim is no longer detected.

after trying all the online suggestions (including multiple mobile setting resets) I tried a factory reset. However, this also downloaded ui8 , so that didn't work either.

I've just noticed the GPS reception is also non functioning.

I have raised an error report and received an acknowledgement.

I seen a few other's with the same problem.

Ok People its confirmed the android 16 UI8 update is what is stopping the sim from being recognised in my Galaxy A53 5G model SM-A536U1. The phone was purchased in the uk from amazon but its clearly a US model and the software update has effected the recogition of the sim as the sim works in other phones. I flashed the phone back to Android 15 UI7 and the sim is now recognised and functions normaly. I have now had to disable updates in order to retain the phones core functionality so hopefully someone from samsung will read this and other threads to rectify the problem and confirm its been patched. google khanistek and they will show you how to download and bootload the phone software. You wont be able to use bifrost to download the older software as this still uses samsung repository and they will only allow download of the latest UI8 software, you will however be able to search and use history to show previous versions and obtain from the net. I used samfw.com. Once you recover the phone make sure to disable samsung auto update but also in the deloveper options, again google how to do this. There is a risk you could brick the phone but in its current state it was useless anyway. Make sure phone is fully charged and you dont touch the usb cable to your pc until the recovery is complete which took about 10mins. Hope this helps and samsung step in with a swift update to resolve this problem and ensure customer retension.

I have same issue with my A53 tried everything that's been suggested, raised an error log. Interestingly my airplane mode background is grey, this is not normal as my wife has the same phone and it is black like all the other icons. Its like its stuck between on and off. Let me know if yours is the same.

Yes my airplane mode is also grey (presumably because there's no phone signal)

Testing the new sim in an old S6 , it is read, shows signal, status reads network data.

I'm convinced the update has stopped the A53 5g reading the sim at all. It's not just working at the country code of the network etc.

Bill Todd you are spot on as my sim works fine in my old J5 so it is software and UI8 specific issue.
